Could it be my Divx decoder?
Any of you guys who have been posting lately know I'm having 'quality issues' (whining, complaining, begging) re: the new templates. However, due to the overwhelming amount of feedback and advice I've recieved, I'm beginning to think my Divx software could be the culprit. Is it possible for a file transcode to be affected by this? I'm curious, because playback quality on my PC with Divx looks just great. However, when opening my Divx 5.0.2 bundle, I saw the 'quality' slider is all the way to the left (low)!! I slid it all the way to the right, and have to wait about a half hour to finish up the first 1/2 of 'the Ring' (scary flick!) before I can test my theory.
Does anyone recommend ditching and re-installing a better Divx decoder/package? I'm all ears :D |
Set the quality slider two notches back. The last two are for deringing which consumes huge amounts of CPU cycles.

So I should avoid De-ringing 'The Ring?' :D
Won't that kill me in 7 days?? j/k |
hay Reno,
divX 5.02 is fine for me. course, you know there's a 5.03 now.. Only issue I know of 5.03 is that the KISS players don't paly them yet. something about maybe needing a firmware update. Anyways.. I like 5.02, but play w/ different ideas w/ 3x also, back and forth. JFY: the bundle I D/L'ed and installed was: DivX502Bundle.exe And, so far, I haven't had any major problems with it. The two pass is ok, but IMO, I prefer the single pass mode. That's up to you. On and off, when time allows or I become just too bored w/ my other projects and things, I will mess around w/ figuring out which is the best way to encode to divX, then re-encode to MPEG1/2 to see just how much quality loos there is (there are some to a degree) Lots of peoples are re-encoding from divX to MPEG, and I thought if I could find that notch in the divX encoding part, then perhaps they would, in the end, yield better quality from a re-encode to MPEG1/2. Well, all this, when I have time and stuff. But, for some reason, when I encode to divX MY WAY, the quality is preddy good (in my eyes, and 13" tv) Well, let me continue my tinkering.. good luck. -vhelp |
