Video-Stutters after multiplexing Files w/ BBMPEG...
Hi all...
Ok... I've had this minor problem forever now, and right now I'm putting effort in it to solve this and I've found out that it is more weird than I thought... To make it short: Viewed in my DVD Player (Cyberhome AD-L528) I can see minor stutters when playing KVCDs with a low bitrate. The thing I don't understand is: On the exact same spots I can see these stutters too, when the multiplexed (BBMPEG) file is viewed in PowerDVD on my machine 8O . You would think if it was the minimum bitrate only, a computer should be able to handle this right :?: However viewed with WinDVD there is no skip at all at these spots... 8O (PowerDVD AND WinDVD show no skips at the spots before multiplexing.) I'm currently uploading a sample to prove this. This is a 15 seconds clip from "A Beautiful Mind" with sound (german so don't laugh  ), where a minor skip can be seen when the camera zooms in on the guy with the black hair sitting in the very front. (he is smoking a cigarette) anyone who is about to complain: I know this is NOT visible with WinDVD. However in PowerDVD you can see it, and on my standalone it is visible too. Here's the sample : http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/jellygoose/stutters.mpg |
Hi jellygoose,
I don't see any stutters in that sample, either on WMP or WinDVD 8O -kwag |

If you don't want to install PowerDVD it would be nice if you could burn it onto a CD-RW and watch it on your standalone. :? I know it's a lot of effort, but you would help me a lot, because I have this problem on EVERY movie I encode... |

Standby for result ..... Results: I can see small stutters. Little jumps on the camera panning, but they are present in my original DVD too :) So I think it's a mastering error on the original movie. It only happens 2 or 3 times on that footage you posted. At least that's what I see :!: -kwag |
Thanks for watching it... I know it's barely visible, but I get these minor stutters on every encoded movie, so I don't think it's a mastering issue... however I still find it strange that PowerDVD plays these stutters and WinDVD doesn't. And you gotta remember this all happens AFTER multiplexing ONLY... It's not a big thing though! KVCD will always be my favorite template  !
 I know it's weird, but something is wrong and I'm just thinking of reasons why... Thanks for helping me so much all the time kwag! |
Hi kwag and others!
I am about to post another sample of this problem in a while... It's another movie (MIB2) and these minor stutters are apparent too... I was trying to use BeSweet as an audio decoder, to see if maybe Headache causes these small stutters. It has to be something with the audio, because before multiplexing, there aren't any stutters! What audio codecs have you guys installed? and which would you recommend for others? kwag, if you would take a look at this new sample? i'll post it in a minute! NOTE: It's again only visible on a standalone, and using PowerDVD. WinDVD doesn't show this problem. It's getting really anoying though, and I am trying my best to get rid of this! |
Ok... I'm pretty certain now that the problem is Headache...
I did the multiplexing with TMPGEnc this time only for test purposes, and the stutters were there too... this time at different spots of the movie though... Does that make any sense to you? Could it be the Audio Buffer? Could it be that I have some strange settings in Headache? Corrupt DLLs? |
Have you tried viewing a video-only clip on your standalone player? This way you'd see if it is audio that's messing things up
|
How can I burn a m1v file as VCD? I thought this was impossible...
Tried with NERO and VCDEasy. however I'm pretty sure that it is the audio that is messing things up. PowerDVD shows me these skips, at the exact same spots where the video skips on the standalone. when I view the m1v file in PowerDVD there are NO skips... |
Just mux without the audio track
|
You mean using TMPGEnc right? Because BBMPEG gives me an error message when you don't specify an audio track to mux with...
muxing right now and i'll let you know the results! |
Ok Boulder here's the result... tell me what you think of that:
1: M1V File muxed with MP2 File encoded by headache with TMPGENc Result: Skips at some spots, though on different spots than the file multiplexed with BBMPEG. 2: M1V File muxed with nothing using TMPGEnc Results: Skips at the same spots than if I muxed it with the MP2 produced by Headache and muxed with TMPGEnc So now we know that it has to be something with the multiplexing right? Or is it the video stream? VBV Buffer maybe? |
Yep, definitely a muxing issue. Have you tried muxing as SVCD?
|
No... I'll try that tomorrow... well thanks for the good advice again! I'll let you know the result. Keep in touch!
|
Hi boulder...
Using SVCD as multiplexing mode didn't change anything... When I used MPEG-1 VBR the skips are gone... weird huh? however MPEG-1 mux mode can't be burnt to CD-R, because a 800mb file on hd is shown as 900mb in VCD Easy or Nero... do you know how to change that? |
That's the VCD audio padding..I really don't know a way to get rid of it. I get it every time I mux as VBR VCD in bbMPEG. If I mux to SVCD, the padding won't be needed.
|
ok...
Maybe this is what I did wrong the whole time : In BBMPEG do you set VBV Buffer Size to 40, instead of 46 default? That would make sense to me, since it's encoded in 40 right? |
Where does one select that 8O
Which means the same as "no, I didn't touch it". I think that it doesn't make any difference as TMPGEnc has already encoded the clip using that value. bbMPEG is an encoder itself, which might explain that setting. We just use it to mux as it sucks big time in other ways  |
I remember now that the padding occurred if I had encoded a clip with min=300 and max=1850. If the max was reduced to 1450 or something like that, the padding was not needed. TMPGEnc also give me mux errors with the higher max bitrate.
Muxing in bbMPEG as SVCD fixed this, although I have to mux and author everything as SVCD these days  |
ok, well I know it DOES make a difference, although you just mux it...when I encoded a clip using VBV Bufer 0 (automatic by TMPGEnc) and I muxed it as VCD in BBMPEG, I got lots of underflow errors... I analysed the file with bitrate viewer which said that it had a VBV Buffer of 112. I put that value in BBMPEG and the underflow errors were gone 8O
Well the stuttering was still there though... Now it would really help if you'd tell me the steps you're taking to mux it as SVCD... do you burn it as SVCD too after muxing? or burn it as VCD? |
