convert to super-high bitrate Mpeg, then kvcd?

Has anyone tried encoding from Divx to a super-high bitrate Mpeg, and THEN re-encoded to KVCDx3? Sure, it would add more time to the process, but I think at that point you'd get an almost exact duplicate of the Divx source...

Just a thought!
I'll try it, and let y'all know how the results look.

That would be two lost generations of encode. You can't achieve better encodes from multiple generations of encoded material. Just like a copy of a copy of a VHS is never the same as the original copy

I hear ya. But if the Bitrate on the first Mpeg is ridiculous (KDVD), loss should be minimal. I propose this because the new templates are uncomfortable with low-bitrate sources...

Any thoughts?

You could convert the divx to uncompressed avi or compressed with Huffyuv but there's no gain in quality. It's better to start with a high quality source.
