trying to get my DV Cam movie on VCD at high quality
 

I'm new at this so please be patient!

Can I use the KVCD template to convert my captured DV movie from an AVI to really good quality vcd format.

I'm new at this so it may be obvious but I don't know.

Normally, once I've finished capturing, the file is 3 to 4 gig. I've used the tmpg software with the regular NTSC VCD template and it works but the quality drops by alot. I was hoping that this template with be better.

If I can use it, can someone give me suggestions on the settings that I should use. The capture is 740 by (can't rember I'm not at home... the standard size).

Hey cardoso!,
If you've used TMPEG before, you're almost done!.
Just load your DV file with TMPEG, as you've done before, and then load the KVCD template.
I must remind you that your DV camera's frame rate is probably 29.97Fps, and you won't get as much compression as if it was 23.976Fps.
Still, you should be able to fit around 90 minutes in a 80 minute CD-R with exceptional quality.
Remember to change the frame rate in the template from 23.976 to 29.97 before encoding. You must also de-interlace your source. I don't have a DV camera, but I assume the output is 29.97 interlaced video.
You can de-interlace your video, also with TMPEG.

I followed the recommendations you have given to cardoso, but again have a playback problem on my standalone DVD player Panasonic RV 30. I have captured the AVI file taken with JVC miniDV camcorder with TMPGEnc Plus and tried both KDVD-352x480-Half-D1- (NTSC) and KDVD-720x480-Full-D1-(NTSC). The playback is choppy and jerky and the sound is uneven. Please help!!

Yes I did but it's choppy aneyway.

I suggest you burn one of the samples in a CD-RW, the ones in the main page of this site, and see if it plays correctly. If it does, it means there was a problem while you encoded with the template. If it doesn't play, there is something else wrong.
The Panasonic RV31 is listed as a compatible model, the closest model to yours. Hopefully your model should be compatible too.

I downloaded the 2 samples and played on my dvd player Everything was fine, so I am comparing the caractristic odf the files and here are the details My problem is that I can't make the mpg file 23.97 fps the TMPGEnc doesent change it from 29.97 fps

You have to do IVTC ( Inverse Telecine ) so that you can encode at 23.976.
