Hi all
Ive been converting avis to vcds for a while with varied success. ive had a play with the kvcd templates and they seem pretty good but i need some pointers.

I have a movie ( avi ) it is 2 hrs 46 mins long. Here is vid info from vdub

video 576x256, 23.976fps, xvid mpeg-4,
audio 48000hz, compression: Franhofer IIS MPEG layer 3 codec. 2 channel stereo.

i would like to convert this to either a vcd/svcd or KVCD
I would ideally like to put it on two 80min cds and try to keep the best quality possible. the vid will then be played on dvd player to a 28 in widescreen tv.

im in uk but the vid doesnt need to be converted to pal as my equipment supports ntsc.

If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. im tearing my hair out!!! I have gone through all kinds of tutorial and still i feel im at the final hurdle of getting it done!!

if anyone can see the vid info and see what s best then id be forever in their debt if they could help me get this done!!!!!

Common guys dont let me down!! i know theres some pretty clued up people out there!!!!

thanks

Hi ShorN,

By far the easiest way for you to get best quality is to use TOK

Check out the TOK forum for instructions on how to use it.

Yes you do. If you don't have them, download the "acp" package, which contains all the programs. Get it on the "acp" forum.

Ah!, now I wonder my kids when they see me early at ~7AM they say "You're up early ", without knowing that I haven't gone to bed
It's good to have a wife that is also a computer addict
Many times when I'm replying posts here, I'm actually in bed ready to go to sleep, using my notebook. You see, we have a 802.11B wireless LAN in our house, so we can move around the house anywhere with our notebooks, and browse the web
So you could say that my wife and I are "always connected" ( If you know what I mean )

well i did the conversion following the guide and checked it on pc fine!

burnt it to a cd and then played on dvd player the pic quality is great , on action scences and all. the only prob is that the audio is behind by a sec or two!!!!

Any suggestions ???

As i said the pic quality is great so if the audio was synced it would be the greatest!!!!!

I often thought that you must have a very understanding wife

Now I understand

My wife is very understanding too... just when your 8 1/2 months pregnant understanding only goes so far
(if you know what I mean).

ok thanks ill go again and give it another try.

I recently d/l the ring. its two 700mb files, so ill put it onto 2 cds as the guide explains. however when i put into vdub there is a prob with audio.

It says rate: 48000hz
Channels: 5 (Stereo)
Precision: 0 bits
compression: unknown (tag 2000)
preload skew: 28000 samples (0.50s)
# frames: 80757
min/ave/etc: 28/2335/28000 (184222k)

and it wont save wav says
" no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the audio format"

Is there any way of finding out???

By the way thanks for your help so far people!!!!

That tag 2000 means its AC3. Make sure Audio is set to "Direct Stream Copy" and "AVI audio" in VirtualDub and save it as wav, then rename to .AC3, you should then be able to encode with HeadAC3he.
