Encoding: Black bards at top/bottom of video?

hi all :)

don't know if this is the better place to ask this:

the dvd have a black board on the top.
after i convert using KVCDx3mpeg2(amazing image and sound),
i got a little black in the bottom(1 centimeter,ok),
but a big black board at the top!(5 centimeters) 8O
