KVCD: I give up on NTSC rips!

Hi all

I have decided if i want a region 1 dvd i will just buy it!!

I just cannot get encoding an 29.97fps movie right

I can do PAL rips perfect :)

kwag maybe you or someone else should write a guide on how to do a dvd rip (NTSC) and the problems you may encounter and how to solve them

Thanks for all your help anyway guys

what type of probs are you coming across?

Hi andybno1

Basically i have a movie (NTSC) 29.97fps, in dvd2avi it shows me Film % greater than 95% so i choose 'force film' and save project. When i load my avs in tmpgenc it shows 23.976fps which is correct as i choose 'force film'. Now after my encode i play it in dvd player and i get jerky motion and cut outs in sound. I have tried including 'telecide' and 'decimate' in my script and this does nothing to the output. If i try to change fps in tmpgenc to 29.97 it trys to encode about 203000 frames when infact there is only 178573. I have tried saving in dvd2avi without 'force film' and choosing 23.976 in tmpgenc, which still produces jerky motion and cuts in sound.

So i have given up! :)

Any suggestions? :?

Thanks. :)

I have the same problems, the only way I can make a conversion with your parameters ( Film % greater than 95% ) was making the project with DVD2AVI with 29.97 and then in the .avs script I use the telecide() command to put the interlaced frames out from the final video. Donīt use the decimate() command, because your movie down to 23.97 fps

If the video was NTSC interlaced, I make a project with 29.97 and use the fieldeinterlaced() command, but in both cases I ever make a VCD with 29.97 fps.

The only 23.97 fps VCD I can make perfect was using a avi source with 23.97 downloaded from the net ( anime episodes ).

have you tried changing the framerate in tmpgenc from 33fps to 29?? I created to types of ntsc templates for tall the kvcd ntsc templates, one 23 and one 29 fps I have had no probs, and used the dvd to kvcd guide except I used 29 fps.

Since you're from UK, maybe your DVD player doesn't like the NTSC format

Change the framerate to 25fps by putting the line AssumeFPS(25.000) in your Avisynth script, encode as 25fps and change the framerate of the audio as well (23.976->25) with BeSweet for example.

DVDs are not the same as KVCDs, VCDs or SVCDs. My player does play NTSC DVDs but not KVCDs encoded at 23.976fps!

Try it out or you'll never know  All you need is a short sample clip to verify this.
