Encoding: NTSC to PAL Conversion Tips Needed

Hi Guys,

I'm sure some of you must have done good quality conversions before now between the PAL and NTSC standards, so I'm looking for some tips. I found some stuff on other sites, but none of it seems to work for me

Anyone give me any tips on which programs/scripts they use for quality conversion? I have access to all the usual programs and Sonic Foundry just sent me a free copy of SoundForge 6 today, so that should help with the audio stretching. Any tips, please?

Here's a good PAL -> NTSC conversion. Load up your PAL video. If it's progressive, go to the inverse telecine dialogue and IVTC it with a 10 pattern (make sure 25fps is selected in the drop-down menu to the left). If it's interlaced, just your favorite deinterlacing method. Then load up the NTSCfilm template, and encode away. A good NTSC -> PAL conversion works pretty much the opposite way, and works best if you can IVTC it to NTSCfilm. Load up your video, and if it's interlaced, IVTC it (if you can...if not, just deinterlace). If it's progressive, IVTC it with a 10 pattern (make sure 24fps is selected in the drop-down menu). Then load up your PAL template, and encode. These aren't FOOLPROOF methods, but they get the job done decently (for me, at least).

I am trying to convert an NTSC source to PAL does your process work even if the source is 29 fps as opposed to the usual NTSC 23.9 fps???
