Hi,
I've been using the folowing template for several months now with fantastic results:
KVCDx2-CQ-704x480-NTSCFILM-2CD.MCF
I got a faster computer (P4 - 2GHz) and am trying to set it up to convert DVDs to XVCDs. All works well until I get to the step of encoding my DVD2AVI output using TMPG and the above template (an older one with an October 2002 creation date). I get a Read Error each time, at varous points (usually less than 1 hour into the encode). I have tried encoding with TMPG's built-in templates and with Kwag's latest Plus template, and everyting works fine. However, I gather that at some point over the last months Kwag decided to change the templates to video only. I was quite happy with the old template, and its sound quality was fine for me (I don't have a home theater so I'm not too picky).
Can anyone suggest why the new templates work and the old one won't, and how to get it to work?
I'm currently using version 2.510.49.157 of TMPG, but I even uninstalled it and reinstalled the same older version that I have on my older PC which works with the above template, but it still gives read errors on the new PC.
I'm baffled, but that doesn't take too much to achieve.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Morloc,

Just load your template and select "System (video+audio )" instead of the default "ES (Video only )".

Thanks for getting back to me so fast, Kwag.
I'm not sure I understand your answer. When I load the old template on the new machine, System (video+audio ) is automatically selected. Or are you suggesting that I use the new (video only) Plus tempate, and then go back and select System (video+audio ) instead of video only? If this is what you mean, could I not also edit the template to change the line MPEG.OutputStreamType = MPEG_OutputStreamType_VideoOnly
to
MPEG.OutputStreamType = MPEG_OutputStreamType_System_VideoAudio

Would this work? But it still bugs me why the old template crashes TMPG. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Morloc

That's right

Sure!, but why would you want to do that, if you can just select it on the main screen

I have no idea. I use TMPEG 2.510 every day without a single crash.

Hi im a newb to all of this, and i tried this avs script in TMPG Enc:

LoadPlugin("C:\Avi Stuff\AviSynth2\plugins\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Avi Stuff\AviSynth2\plugins\LegalClip.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Avi Stuff\AviSynth2\plugins\Sampler.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Avi Stuff\AviSynth2\plugins\DustV5.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Avi Stuff\AviSynth2\plugins\TemporalCleanerOld.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Avi Stuff\AviSynth2\plugins\GripFit_Preview.dll")
avisource("C:\Avi Stuff\Noname.avi")
#ConvertToYUY2()
LegalClip()
GripCrop(528, 480, overscan=2)
GripSize()
SpaceDust()
#TemporalCleaner()
LegalClip()
#Sampler(length=24)

Then when i load it into TMPG i get this:

Hi diablov90street,

Your problem is probably related to your source file.
Have you tried opening a .d2v (DVD Rip) instead of an .avi file

Hi Morloc,
I tried what you suggested and used the new Plus template and then checked the System (Video + Audio) button. TMPG then crashed (Read error) just like when I use the older template. So encoding the audio is the cause of the problem, but what can I do to fix it?
Any help appreciated,
-Morloc

Be sure your AviSynth plugins directory has only DLL files. If you've got stray .avs files in there, you might get this error...
