Encoding: Same old question, PAL vs. NTSC
 

I know the question has already been discussed, but still I believe there's something I can't comprise very well.

If I have an avi 25 fps, and convert it to VCD Pal, everything is OK.
If the avi is 23,97 - or 29,97 - the video is a totally jerkiness, although the audio is perfect. Things do not seem to change using kvcd pal or kvcd ntsc, and I'm afraid the more I try the more I'm getting confused (I even forgot why some movies have 23,97 fps and some 29,97!).

After reading some of the posts I suspected that the problem lies in the muxing, because the m1v file seems to play much better and I read something about the audio being encoded at 25 fps - and as the audio plays well, I'm afraid the video was "forced" to adapt to 25 fps - and needing to be changed in BeSweet. But I didn't find how to change the fps in BeSweet!

The only thing I can add is that the jerkiness is much more visible in fast motion than in slow - but that's probably obvious.
My ideas are not clear. :-|

i don't use VCDpal but read in this thread some about pulldown,force film,
interlaced,and more...it will help you.

I'm now trying with "deinterlace" option set, and tomorrow morning I'll know if it worked. BTW, how can you know if the movie was interlaced?

OK. PAL is a very common word, but "interlaced" is not. :-)

Still I'm not sure. The movie looks better now, but some jerks remained. It must be something related to NTSC format, as PAL never gives me such problems. :-|

Convert PAL 25 fps to 29.976 fps?
in (short Tut)

You can use tmpgenc to do the job but first you have to slow down
the Video and audio to of the source to 23.976
For Audio you can use cooledit or something equal (Stretch function).
For Video (if it is AVI take VirtualDub).
If you got that, use the tmpgenc Filter 3:2 Puldown, than you will get
the mpeg in 29.976fps

dont think the film may run to slow..
normaly in europe films will be shown on TV or DVD speedet up at one Frame per second. If you slow down it is in the original tempo.

but.. i made the reverse thing sometime ..(inverse telecine and speedup one frame) becouse the tv-output looks more "homogen" in PAL.

No! It's the opposite. The movie is 23.976 and I'm not sure if it possible to see it on a PAL TV. :-|
