Encoding: Tool Which Rewrites the Header?

People,

I've stupidly burned an mpeg2 movie as a VCD (mpeg1) with Nero and then deleted the source.

This will not obviously open up and play either as the .dat or renamed as a .mpg.

I seem to remember a util which re-writes the header ??? or was that just a dream ?

Anyway can anyone help ?

You can just de-multiplex with TMPGEnc and then remultiplex with BBmpg.

maybe the software you are thinking of is VCDgear? which can be found at

Hmmm I tried both but with no joy.

Opening it up in TMPGenc and I get the Illegal Mpeg Video Stream error and something similiar using VCDGear.

There must be something I can do.

This was an mpeg2 movie that I burned with Nero as a vcd. When the warning came up I just said Ignore and write as non-standard.

Can anyone help ?

try running Isobuster and right-click on the AVSEQ01.DAT file and select extract but FILTER only M2F2 Mpeg frames, then see if you can demux that file with TMPGEnc > file > mpeg tools > simple demux

Thanks Ren but no.

When I open it up in TMPGEnc after isobust'ing it it gives me the same error.

Cant believe there is nothing I can do

since it started out as an MPEG-2 encode.. have you tried opening it up
under DVD2AVI

Nope opening it up in DVD2AVI causes it to crash.

Hey jmjarvis, I don't know what you did but I burned a test mpg2 sample into vcd, and were able to demux the .dat file into .m2v and .mp2 files using MPEG tools that came with TMPGEnc.

Here's what I did step by step
1. copied the .dat file onto my hard drive
2. goto File\MPEG Tools... menu for TMPGEnc
3. click on simple De-multiplex tab
4. Select the browse button for the input and goto the directory for the .dat file, make sure you have 'All files(*.*)' selected under files of type or you won't be able to see the .dat file. and click open

then just click run the file should be seperated into two files .m2v and .mp2. then you can multiplex using BBmpg or TMPGEnc.
