I'm currently sampling the first half of a movie (can't divulge the title, but it rhymes with 'fangs of blue stork')

I try KVCD x3, Spacedust, Temporal cleaner and both Blockbusters (my fave combo at the moment). File size= 12.3mb. Verdict - Hella Big. Won't fit.

I try KVCD x3, Spacedust, Convo3d, and NO blockbusters, with mergeluma and mergechroma (using Kwag's current recipe values). File size= 12.3mb. Verdict - Hella Big. Won't fit.

I should have a seen a BIG change in file size (compressibility) with these two, right?

So here I sit, going "Hmmmmm....."

So why don't you just lower the CQ value about 3 points, and try another sample

I'm currently deluding myself with the idea that CQ 75 is the best CQ... I just don't want to drop that number.

I'll come to my senses eventually....

Isn´t 76 better... or 80 perhaps? The larger the better or that´s what I always thought...

@ reno :

some movies are just hard to compress... but some still look very good at a lower CQ. For KVCDx3 movies will still look good until CQ 65 in my eyes. under that, i aim for 2CD encodes. also check how much pixel you can use for overscan. Try something like this in your script and burn a small sample, to see if you see borders on the sides on your TV set.

Letterbox(0,0,22,22)

if you do see borders try

Letterbox(0,0,20,20)
