encoding in Tmpgenc, the left and right borders look excessively large?

Hi...hope someone can help with what I hope is not the obvious.

I have used all the KVCD templates (PAL) past and present on my standalone Grundig player with great success but never tried KVCDx3 (never got around to it). Alas can't get it to work or 544x576 variation either. Am using the latest Optimal avs script which works fine with the other KVCDs. WMP plays it OK.

The thing I find strange is that whilst it is encoding in Tmpgenc, the left and right borders look excessively large in the window. Reducing Overscan does not fix this which makes me a bit suspicious of the template.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers
Jeff

I don't think TMPGEnc preview is very accurate. On the KVCDx3 template, the newest scripts work pretty well with 704x576 resolution instead, and I find that dropping the res to 480x576 (SVCD) works well too, at the sacrifice of some sharpness.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have no prob with the 704x576. Will try 480x576. Pity about the KVCDx3 though.

Hi Jeff,

Did you try KVCDx3 MPEG-2 at 528x or 544x :?:

Hi Kwag....nice to draw the Boss out on this. No I have not tried Mpeg-2. Not trying to be a tight wad (maybe I am  ) but do you know any free mpeg-2 encoders to try. My trial on Tmpgenc has expired.

Cheers mate

You can encode as MPEG1 and remux as SVCD . The result will be same .

Encode as usual, but mux with BBMpeg as SVCD instead of as VCD.

Tried both 544x and 528x and to no avail. Guess my DVD does not like the KVCD 3 :( . Still I've got the others to choose from. Tok works great with these :D .

Thanks for the advice.
Cheers

Did you end up trying 480x resolution ozjeff99? If it will play properly on your player, it's not too far off in quality from the x3 templates. Whenever I have to drop down resolution to make a movie fit onto 1 disc, I always try 480x480 first because I don't like the resulting quality of 352x480 nearly as much. Good luck.
