Hiya

I used the Blackprince's guide (great guide) to convert avi to kvcd but one problem - the audio is always out of sync. I tried it with other avis as well, and still the same..so its unlikely there is anything wrong with the source file. why is it always out of sync ?

I also downloaded one of kwag's sample..picture looks very sharp. what script would be recommended for divx as the source ?

Thanks

Have you tried playing the source in WMP first to check if the audio is in sync? Anyway, try some of the sync guides at VCDHelp.com.

Try the latest script in the "Optimal Scripts" forum for VHS and captures.

does the film start in sync, then get further out of sync the more you get into the film?
If so it's one of the MS updates, I installed it and that happened to me, I had to reformat my hard drive to get rid of it, it has also been deleted from MS updates page too, so you would have had to install it just after Christmas.
I posted a warning in one of the forum sections, but hopefully it won't be this, otherwise it's a format for you

If your avi's are in sync, but your output is not, try opening the avi in a little program called Goldwave. It won't matter if the audio component is mp3 or ac3, it will extract to an uncompressed .wav for viewing. Save the audio as a high bitrate mp3, and load it into Headac3he for conversion to mp2. Then just follow the rest of the guide. Hopefully that will fix it. I rarely use Vdub on avi sources nowadays... It's fast, but imprecise.

thx for the replies

now one more question... Im using the script below..the picture is fairly sharp, but there are blocks around the edges. I tried that mergechrome and mergeluma, but the picture is too blurry. what else should I used to remove these blocks. Thanks

AviSource("C:\test.avi")
ConverttoYUY2
LegalClip()
GripCrop(352, 240, overscan=1, source_anamorphic=false)
GripSize(resizer="BicubicResize")
SpaceDust()
Sharpen(0.7)
FluxSmooth(temporal_threshold=7, spatial_threshold=7)
TemporalCleaner(ythresh=5, cthresh=10)
BlockBuster(method="noise", detail_min=1, detail_max=7, variance=0.3, seed=1)
GripBorders()
LegalClip()

Second that, Kane.

The new script will buy you all kinds of time as well. You've got some pretty serious filtering going on in there.

the picture looks squashed on the 352x240 resolution, so i changed the resolution to 480x480 (much better so i'm going to keep it at resolution), but its squashed to the left, so on the right side is a just a big border. Why is this ?

Probably because your player doesn't properly support that resolution...It shouldn't look squashed at 352x240 though...try taking that source_anamorphic=false out if you decide to try 352x240 again...
