Hi big,

Sure, you could use any weird resolutions you want...but there's a good chance that it might not play properly on your dvd player! I'd definetly make a small sample first and test it out on your player before wasting several hours encoding. If it happens to work for you, and you think it actually looks better than the standard x3 resolution, then more power to you. Unfortunately, I sorta doubt it would be worth doing. I believe Kwag chose the x3 resolution of 528x480 because it was the best "happy medium" between picture-quality and minutes-per-disc, and many (but not all) players could still play it properly. 528x480, 544x480 and 704x480 resolutions are more likely to play properly on most dvd players than 624x480.

If your dvd player plays raw mpeg-1 files, then you could try burning your strange resolution file as raw mpeg-1 and see if that will work for you (if x3 @624x480 doesn't). My player plays raw mpgs, and it won't play kvcdx3 @ 528x480, but it does @544x480. But if I burn as raw mpeg-1 @528x480, then it will play that particular resolution properly. Weird huh? Just a trick for you to try if you're convinced that 624x480 would be better for you. But Kwag already invented the wheel for us, so why tinker with it? Good luck.
