I'm using 1/2 DVD KVCD Mpeg2 with Huffy TV capture cartoon and having motion problems. Any advice? I'm encoding at 29.97 interlaced with GOP (tried 15 and 1. Using MJPEG at 19 without loss.

aviSource("C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\capture\goof.avi")
LegalClip()
#GripCrop(480, 480, dest_anamorphic=false)
#GripSize(resizer="BicubicResize")
STMedianFilter(10, 50, 0, 0, 10, 50)
FaeryDust()
unfilter(50,50)
#temporalsmoother(1,2)
mergechroma(blur(1.58 ))
mergeluma(blur(0.3))
#GripBorders()

#LetterBox(16, 16, 16, 16)
LegalClip()

#Sampler(length=24)
##MPEG size = ((Total frames/MovieTimeInMinutes)/24) * MPEG sample file size ##

Although I can't claim to be an expert by any means I found my cartoon capture jitter problems went away when I de-interlaced.

Also, did you change the GOP to 15?

Yes, tried GOP 15. I'll try telecide(), deinterlace() tonight. Thanks.

If you keep the video interlaced you must also use the interlaced resizing...that will stop the motion problems and give a sharper picture than deinterlacing...but only with mpeg 2 and only when you have a lot of bitrate (like DVD or small SVCD encodes).

Please explain "interlaced resizing". I am using KDVD-352x480-Half-D1-_NTSC_.mcf (MPEG2). I change to 480x480 and GOP to 15. I have tried both 29.97 (interlaced) and 23.976 (deinterlaced). The resulting copy is very clear, but with motion problems. When a character moves, it looks like when you set your mouse 'trail" on. It looks like you can see the individual frames from start of movement to end of movement. I am not dropping many frames during capture (less than 50 out of 141K frames).

I am capturing with a 2.53 P4, WinTVGO card and VirtualVCD, MJPEG set to 19. I am capturing at 480x480. I have had similiar results using Huffy lossless. I am confined to SVCD 480x480 due to DVD player restraints. The captures are full screen.

Hi nicksteel,

If you're encoding for DVD, and your material is 29.97fps interlaced, you just encode at 29.97fps interlaced. There is no need to deinterlace! You only deinterlace if your target is VCD, which only allows for progressive frames. For DVD or SVCD, you don't need a deinterlacer. Is your source selection in TMPEG set to "Interlaced" ?

Trying to make a 480x480 SVCD, as my kid's players won't play anything but that and 352x240. I don't have problems when making DVD's, just SVCD's. Can't figure why all captures have this "jitter" on 4 different machines. I have tried encoding at 29.97 without deinterlacing and using GOP 15, but still get motion problems with cartoon captures. When I encode as 352x240, no problem except for poor quality.

What happens if you encode 480x480 with the standard SVCD templates in TMPEG
Do you still get the jerkiness
