I don't know if it is good idea. Usually I try to encode in such a way, that the encoded file has equall or less pixels for frame than the source. The reason - in the source file there is information for the pixels regarding the resolution. If one try to encode with the resolution, which require more pixels should expect decrease of quality as the information for the extra pixels don't exist at all. In the case - 576X240 = 138240 pixels. If the aspect ratio is 2.35:1 then 528 X 432 = 228096 pixels. I would suggest to encode with 352 X 288. You have 352 X 216 = 76032 pixels. The 432 and 216 values are only for the picture, the remain are black borders. I hope this make sense.

Theoretically you're right Abond. However, I found out for myself, that upscaling with "BicubicResize" gives me excellent results. When you encode this with such a low resolution, I'm sure picture will look worse. However you should try out what best suits you :wink:

In this case I prefere 352x240 .
Your source is 576x240 - just 240 lines . If u go to higher res I dont think u'll get better picture . Go for 352x240 with highest CQ value with little sharpening u'll get best u can . Want to be sure make small clips and compare :wink: bman |

U are using KVCD temlates right ?
So , quality u'll get even with 352x240 will be much higher than VCD - xVCD (KVCD). If source is HQ than u can expect quality almoast SVCD . bman |

I didn't say do not use 352x480 8) .
Just , try and see . Take same episode and encode it with 352x480 , 352x240 , 480x480 or even 704x480 if your player can support it and compare them . This test shoud take about half an hour but than u'll be sure in your choise . Which stream svcd or vcd ??? I don't follow exectly what u mean ! Try to encode as mpeg1 as egreed that TMPGenc is best for it . bman |

Hey Wolfi, we can't do the job of trying out yourself for you :lol:
I'd say you can easily get away with 528x576 (PAL) if your player supports it, but upscale with BicubicResizer. However, opinions differ, so you just gotta try out what you like better... :wink: |

:D If you live in a NTSC Zone, encode at 544x480 instead of 544x576. However, you overscan way to much at the end. Change the values to this: Letterbox(0,0,18,18). The resolution is too low to overlap 32 pixel on each side.
Also lower the LumaBlur to 0.15 in this script, or the picture will get to soft. |
