Audio sync problem, but no bad frames in xvid?

I can't get the audio to synch. I tried black princes guide to extract the audio and I get a file that is 4 secs short of the movie. I tried muxing it and still the audio is faster than the video. so I tried avi2wav and that gave me a correct wav length and then converted that to mp2 with tmpgenc and muxed with bbmpeg and audio is still out of synch and then tmpgenc and still audio is out of synch. I then ran divxreaper to see if there where bad frames in the avi, and everything is fine. do you have any idea what could be wrong?

Your video is probably not in a legal framerate value.

I had the problem once with a Xvid that was detected as 29.971 (en not 29.97) fps.

I tried a lot of things and nothing worked.

I manage to have everything fine by asking TMPGEnc to encode both video _and_ audio at the same time (select "ES (video+audio)" and give the path to the wav).

DivXRepair can't scan XviDs properly. Only DivX. In fact, I'm not sure what can scan XviDs...I think VirtualDub can, but it only deletes bad frames, not "good but undecodable" ones...(I think)... You could still try scanning with VirtualDub instead though, and deleting anything you find.

thank you both for your help. I appreciate it. I think I found the problem. I redid all the audio. muxed with bbmpeg and it seems to be running fine. Unless I fast forward or rewind, then the audio starts to get out of sync. I don't know why, I have a decent computer for encoding. 2.20ghz 128megs ram. so I don't know what the problem would. btw Im using powerdvd to test everything since wmp displays it all squished. oh and the fps is 23.97
