KVCD: Blockiness on dark scene?

I used kwags cd2 template for Gone in 60 sec changing to 352x240 (my dvd player cant play 704x480, daewoo 5800)

CQ:80
Bitrate: 2300

On dark scenes i could see blockiness...is there a way to get rid of them?

Did you Check "Output YUV data as Basic YCbCr not CCIR601" in TMPEG?
Try that.

Kwag,

I've read this suggestion on other forums, also. Could you explain what this does and why it would solve 'blocky blacks' problems?

By the way, I think you must be one of the most patient people I've ever encountered. I hope hosting this forum doesn't burn you out.

Thanks for all your help, past and present.

Burn out who! No wonder I see smoke coming out of my ears all day

Movies are encoded as CCIR601. So if we re-encode a movie, you can just output it as YCbCr, and not as CCIR601. So that it doesn't re-encode again as CCIR601. You wouold loose quality, color balances, etc.
Take a look at the real technical explanation here: 8O

Every test that I've made with the "soften block noise" results in worse blocks!. I've read comment on the net about this too. In TMPEG versions 1.xBeta, it worked. But on versions 2.X, it's worse. Don't ask me why  I think this problem has been posted at the tmpeg support forum. Last time I tried was with TMPEG 2.53.

Update

Will someone PLEASE try this! I just encoded a 10 second clip of "The Matrix" lobby scene with TMPEG 2.55. With the standard VCD template, you can see blocks.
If I turn on "Soften Blocks" and set it to 50/50, I see more blocks.
If I set to 100/100, even worse. But if I set to 0/0 THERE ARE ALMOST NO BLOCKS 8O . It seems that the internal "Soften Blocks" works the opposite as described in TMPEG.

Need feedback, and if I'm correct, I'll post this at Pegasys-inc's site as a question regarding the correct use of this.
