Hi
dr_nicotine,
I tried out a 512x384 mpg-1 clip in my Sampo 631CF player and it was a garbled mess (burned as both vcd and raw mpeg-1). I really can't say for sure whether or not it would work on many other players, but I would have to guess
NOT...512x384 is a pretty oddball resolution. I would think 528/544x480 or 480x480 would be much more likely to play correctly on more players (and even those resolutions give
some players fits).
However, if 512x384 works for you on your player, and you don't really care about compatibility with other dvd players too much, then it
might be worth using for you (although if your player ever dies, you might find yourself with a pile of drink-coasters
unless you can find another compatible player). If you haven't already done so, I'd say create some samples and do a visual comparison (on a tv) between this resolution and the others I mentioned to see whether the differences between quality, filesize and compatibility really makes this resolution worth using to you. Personally, I think
I'd probably avoid it.
But to each his own!
Regards,
