AVI to VCD Using a KVCD Template?

In most of the threads I have read, it all talks about converting a DVD to VCD using the KVCD templates. I was wondering if it is possible to do this using an AVI file. Does anyone know of a guide that walks you thru the steps of going from an AVI file to KVCD. I am still a rookie at this so any help from you pro's out there would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
