Aspect Ratios
 

Just wanted to know, what would be the best settings to get the correct aspect ratio for the final output. Also would like to know, if something has to be tweaked in Tok as well for that.

GripFit will resize to the correct aspect ratio if you use the default parameters I think. :wink:

With MovieStacker you will ever get the correct aspect ratio. 8)
Even if you don't want to use GripFit,
set the crop method to accurate and you will get the most correct aspect ratio possible. :wink:

I'm curious. If I don't use Gripfit yet still want to crop out the top and bottom bars prior to filtering a widescreen flick and add the black borders at the end, what is the best method for determining the crop values (Vdub??) and what should the aspect setting be since "accurate" will give me the wrong answer and will start cropping the width which I don't want.

I was wondering that too. I have a 16:9 widescreen dvd which is (of course) 720x480. When I load the d2v into tmpgenc and clip frame myself to remove the top and bottom bars, I get a film pixel size of 720x359. In Moviestacker tho if I use GripFit set to accurate it says the film pixel is 720x480 and will crop 692x480. So who is right and who is wrong? Does gripfit actually do the right thing for me or should I stick to entering in the crop values manually into moviestacker?

If you want to be 100% sure of your aspect and resize, do it manually by entering the Film pixels as you did ;)
GripFit can fail with some movies.

The strange thing is tho that when I resize myself, I always seem to get a lower CQ according to ToK. For example, using GripCrop I get a CQ of 63.293 but doing it manually I get a CQ of 62.778. But since both predictions have the same required video size, I'll encode both and see who is more accurate...

Oh well never mind, they both came out with almost the exact same file size, both <2% short. So I guess GripFit does know what it's doing, but maybe moviestacker just isn't telling me the right stuff...?
