KVCD: Multiple VCDs on one DVD-R?
 

Hi All:

I'm kind of new to this kvcd templates. I would like to put multiple VCDs (12+ 45min mpg1 episodes) on a single DVD-R. Which way is better?

1) use TMPGEnc Author
2) use KVCD template to encode as MPG2

Also, I have some NTSC mpeg1 movies that are encoded at 23.976fps. What's the best way to handle this? Do the 3:2 pulldown and keep them as mpeg1 or reencode them to MPEG2?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Don't re-encode :!:
You need only to re-encode your audio from 44.1Khz to 48Khz.
So first, you have to demux each of your .DAT files to .m1v and .mp2, and re-encode the audio ONLY.
Then, all your MPEG-1 VCDs that are encoded at 29.97fps, mux them with your new audio, and you're done!
The VCDs that are 23.976, run the program "pulldown.exe" against them, and then mux them with your new encoded audio. That should be all you need to do :)
Now you can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to import them and create your DVD.

You want 12 episodes on each DVD :!: So you will have to re-encode your video. Keep in mind that you will loose quality by re-encoding from MPEG-1 again to MPEG-1 :!:

I would use the KVCD_LBR 352x240 template. Encode as MPEG-1 at 23.976 if possible, and flag 3:2 pulldown with pulldown.exe.

Realistically, if I want to keep as close to the original VCD quality as possible. How many minutes of VCD can I fit on a DVD-R?

If you were encoding from DVD ( or extremely clean material ), about 1080 minutes (18 hours) on each DVD(+-)R :!:
Is that ok, or not good enough :mrgreen:

18 hrs on a DVD-R will be excellent!!!! Now I only have VCD sources. How can I achieve that? Is it just reencoding with the KVCD_LBR 352x240 template and the audio resampling?

Because you'll be re-encoding from VCDs, I would assume you'll loose around 25% of space. So figure that you will still get ~13 hours, which is still very good :!:

pulldown shortens the video ???
 

OK, I tried to pulldown a 42min 23.976fps NTSC video and resample the audio from 44.1kHz to 48kHz. However, what I notice is that the video length is now only about 34min and after I remux the video & audio, they are totally out of sync :cry: :cry: I used pulldown.exe and just did:

pulldown old.m1v new.m1v

Did I do something wrong? Any ideas?

I have no idea what happened niners!
The times I've done 3:2 pulldown on files, has been encoding from my own DVDs. Not from VCD to MPEG. So I'm not sure what happened there :?
