What should TMPGEnc GOP setting be for DVD to DVD using KDVD full template via DVDDecrypter into DVD2AVI into TMPGEnc? I'm using "optimal script" for both 4:3 and 16:9. Final burn will be via IFOEdit and ImgTool. (Film is too big for DVDShrink/dvd2one.)

Should I use DVD2AVI without forcefilm and set TMPGEnc GOP at 18, or use DVD2AVI with forcefilm and set TMPGEnc at 24? DVD2AVI shows 95% Film?

Also, what settings should I change in "optimal script" and TMPGEnc for 4:3 and 16:9? I'm not into TOK yet.

Just hunting simple rules, as I'm not as clever as you guys with all the options and tweaks. I use DVDShrink whenever possible, but films requiring more than DVDhrink compression level 2 require a different route.

LegalClip()
unfilter(50,50)
GripCrop( 720, 480 ) ## Using KDVD Full DVD
GripSize(resizer="BicubicResize")
STMedianFilter(8, 32, 0, 0, 8, 32)
# SpaceDust() # Optional - for some "not so clean" DVDs.
temporalsmoother(1,2)
mergechroma(blur(1.50))
mergeluma(blur(0.2))
# Convolution3d or DCTFilter for extreme worse cases.
GripBorders()
LegalClip()

Hi nicksteel,

The GOP set in the KDVD templates is already set to the MAX size defined for DVD compatibility. You use "Force FILM" in DVD2AVI, if the movie is FILM, just like if you were going to do a regular KVCD. When you encode with the KDVD templates, it will encode at 23.976fps with 3:2 puldown. Use TMPEG DVD author to make your DVDs. It works really great

Great! From your reply, I assume the 3:2 pulldown allows the 18 GOP in KDVD template.

Hi nicksteel,
I have been using this 1-24-2-1-24 for 3 months and have encoded 20+ movies with this GOP without a single problem. Try it out, 1-24-2-1-24 gives you more compression without loosing quality. Hope this helps. Once again, big thanks to Kwag.

The 3:2 pulldown is just a flag to tell the player to playback as 29.97fps. The GOP (Group of Pictures) is completely independent of frame rate.

Using KDVD full and TMPGEnc Author, the results for a 2:20 16:9 DVD were outstanding, completely equal to original with 3.6MB M2V output.

KWAG, your KDVD template is outstanding! Although I have had no real success with KVCD (probably due to my Cyberhome500 player), DVD results are about perfect.

How do I avoid menu creation? At the end of the movie, the default menu triggers. I want no menu at all.

Also, I somehow remain confused about 4:3 and 16:9 settings in TMPGEnc. When processing a 16:9 movie, which TMPGEnc settings should be changed? For example source aspect ratio, output aspect ratio, etc. I understand 3:2 pulldown and the other features and I do use forcefilm in DVD2AVI when applicable. I also use optimal script from forum.

That I can't say, because I only have used TMPEG's DVD Author only for several tests

You only change the output aspect to 16:9, if your movie is wide screen anamorphic.
If it's not anamorphic (4:3), then set the output to 4:3. Most DVDs now are 16:9 anamorphic. Make sure you also set anamorphic "destination" in ToK, so that you encode the same aspect as your input. If you leave the output anamorphic unchecked, you'll be encoding non anamorphic.

I'm not into TOK yet. I know, my loss. How do I handle without TOK? The TMPGEnc source screen says 4:3. Do I only change the advanced screen to 16:9? Also, do I choose full screen aspect ratio(2)? I'm only using KDVD full with optimal script.
