Encoding: Source frame rate 1000 fps, what to do?

Hi there,
After consecutively searching over the net for 48 hours, I finally figured out how to convert asf/wmv (internet streaming which requires WMV2 codec) to avi which virtual dub accepts. I view this avi in media player and powerdvd, it is in perfect sync. However, after loading up in virtual dub, "file information" shows that the source framerate is 1000.00fps, I have tried to convert to 29.97 and 25. it is just like slow motion movie when I frameserve to Tmpeg (I set the same framerate in Tmpeg to tally with virtual dub). Can anyone please tell me what to do? What should be the correct framerate? Of course, I applied the wonderful script created by you great people (AviSynth--2.52). Thanks in advance.

Hi syk2c11,

No way man 8O :D
Something is detecting a wrong frame rate. If the file was 1000fps, your file would be ~40 times larger than a regular encode. Some CODEC is reporting the wrong frame rate 8)

Edit: Right click on the file, and select properties. See if it tells you the frame rate.

@ syk2c11..

as a rule of thumb, don't mess w/ other scripts (specially those w/ lots of
fitering routines and stuff) till you've first fixed your issue. I say this cause
you don't know what to expect in YOUR given situation, and you could be
at it for days longers than antisipated, and it could have ben what was in
the scripts you used. So, you don't want to waist bandwidth on other scripts
until you've first fixed your first problem.

A suggestion maybe...
Open your source in vdub and go to:
* Video/FrameRate and select (o) Change to [29.970] frames per second
for that fps, and then proceed to Save as another .AVI file. Here,
you can choose another codec altogether, and reSave. Then, open this
file in ANOTHER vdub and see how it plays. Remember, for maximum speed,
press the >>1 play button, NOT the >>0 as this one uses
lots more resources and will probably not show smoothest play.
These button are at button left of vdub window.

If the above does not work, then try another fps value. What your problem
may be is the correct fps of the "original" source. Did you know what it
was ?? If so, you really show be using THAT fps in this procedure.

If all doesn't work, and you've tried other steps w/ negative results, then
all I can tells ya is to re D/L it again.. :!: perhaps w/ another stream
D/L'er app.

Good luck in any event :)

Hi Kwag and vhelp,
Thanks for the reply, I don't know if I correctly tune the hyffyuv codec when I convert the asf to avi (the first step of the process) and I don't know what is the correct set up. I used GraphEdit to load up the asf and used hyffyuv as the video compressor inside which there is something I can change.

I tried the method suggested by vhelp, it does bring down the framerate to 25 (because the resolution is 352x288), I selected the same codec (i.e. huffyuv) to save as another avi, but the size is huge. 30 seconds take up 2.5GB (the original size is 270MB). What went wrong?
