70 minute fullscreen kvcd beat CCE CVD?
Just a little success note. I had a 75 minute full screen 29.97 DVD I wanted to put on one CD. I've got a Pioneer 343 so for mpeg 1 I can only use 352x240 or the 720x480 templates. I decided to encode it as 352x240 because it was faster to do, and with full screen material I find the VCD resolution to be good enough.
Using MovieStacker and ToK with the default values for kvcd I ended up with a very good result. Can I tell the difference from the DVD? Of course, but it looks like a decent VHS and for this material that is more than fine. Since I had a little time to spare I decided to try giving the same DVD a 5 pass CCE encode (DVD2SVCD with TS of 2,2) at CVD resolution mpeg 2. I do my SVCDs/CVDs with DVD2SVCD most of the time, but play around with KVCD as well...at any rate, I was quite surprised to see that the KVCD encode quite readily beat the CCE version. The only instance where CCE was better was in the solid black backgrounds, they were smoother in CCE than in TMPGenc with KVCD. The KVCD encode had no noise at all around people or high action, the CCE encode had minimal but noticeable noise around almost everything. I'm going to try using the SKVCD template and do this encode once more for a more direct comparison, but just wanted to put in a little kudo to Kwag and crew for the ongoing KVCD project. |

You might want to try the "Current script" posted here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3483 for AviSynth 2.52 It really makes a hell of a difference 8) -kwag |
I'm still using avisynth 2.0, but I'll give 2.5 a shot...can I just pretty much cut and paste that script into ToK?
...and is there anything special I have to do when installing 2.5 to get it to work with ToK...I've become very used to using MovieStack/ToK. |

Other than that, remember to Copy&Paste the source file, resize, addborders, etc. from MovieStacker. -kwag |
