2 hours + DVD quality!!!
 

I was able to fit the original Oceans 11 (2:08 running time) on 1 CD. I lowered the KVCD3 resolution to 480x480. I also used the current Avisynth 2.52 script.

TOK told me to use 56.71 CQ. I used 57. The file size was only 724MB. Using Easy VCD (burning a VCD 2.0) there was plenty of room left. I probablly could have gone a full 60 CQ.

For a 2 hour + move. The quality is almost PERFECT.

I don't even know what to say anymore. I just keep waking up from nightmares about how I used to encode before I found out about the KVCD and.... KWAG!

did u use TOK just for the prediction or to encode the whole movie?
Could u say what u did to get on one cd, cuz I cant even get a 100min movie with a good quality on 1 CD :oops:

Don't worry Plautzer, everything is a matter of own taste.

With a CQ below 65, I personally talk in term of "decent" quality, and certainly not "perfect".

For sure, Grabman can find this "perfect" for his eyes, I won't blame him for it. The final purpose is to have everyone happy with its KVCD :-)

I got it done!!!
And the quality was pretty good, too!!
I was very surpriced how clear the picture was,
but sometimes the background looks ugly, but that does bother me at all!!
What is bothering me is when the camera shifts the picture is a small bit behind, :arrow: is there filter or something for that to get rid of it?
THe encoding took me 8 hours with just tmpgenc and the KVCDx3 template, that is 4 hours fast than if I would use TOK!!!
When I do 2 cds, should i use a bigger resolution(704/480) or should I stick with 528/480???

For 2 disks, and if you are using the adaptive script, I would go 704x :)
If you don't have an HDTV, then 528x is just fine :cool:

No... I do not use TOK to encode. I only check for CQ and then do everything right in TMPGEnc. (However, I am playing around with MPEG-VCR instead of TMPGEnc for cutting commercials.)

The original Oceans 11 certainly does not contain the same kind of clean content in todays DVDs (like Matrix). It is basically a tape transfer where the source was mastered BEFORE VHS was even in place.

There is very little fast motion in the movie... and....

I do not have an HDTV. I have a Sony 35" Trinitron (and a Sony 5-disc DVD changer).

Between the cleanup the Sony player provides and the display limitations of S-Video to my TV the end result it basically perfect.

As Kwag said in previous posts you can not use the CQ number like a flat measurement. :!: When Dialhot said it take more than 65 and it is a matter of taste... :roll:

Well the matter of taste is true :wink: but the CQ is way to relative to put levels in place. I have had 50 look better on one clip than 65 did on another. (That is an extreme example).

That is why TOK is so great. :D You can see actual quality results before you waste the time encoding the whole clip.

My taste is no visable noise and the least blur possible. :twisted: I think most DivX encodes look like crap. 8O Using the KVCD I get way way better visual quality and it plays in a DVD player.

Oceans 11 worked perfectly... as have several other DVDs. :D

And... some need way more size than one CD-R to look good.

What I end up doing is batching up several clips. I run 4-8 instances of TOK at one time and then come back and look at the log files.

Then I use the data to batch up 4-8 projects in TMPGEnc. I leave it run and come back to the results.

(The bottom line on quality using the KVCD is only wether it will take 1 or 2 CD-Rs. I would challenge anyone who did not already know it was not a DVD to tell the difference when you follow the information from Kwag & the rest of this forum!)

I have been burning up to three hours for over 2 months now. I have done a lot of tweaking but this is the most fun thing I have done since college. I have burned Lord of the rigns and have excellent quality video and sound. Thanks Kwag :D

Could you post the script you used for "The Lord of the Ring"? I haven't had any luck at all with that one :cry:
BTW Did you rip a PAL or NTSC source DVD :?:
