Hi,

I have been messing with various AVI files I have here mainly in the 400x288 resolution range, some higher some lower. Of course the quality as perceived on the PC is excellent - even at full screen - but I wondered what kind of quality I would expect from using one of the KVCD or SKVCD type templates?

I have tried converting them using standard VCD and SVCD techniques using DVD2SVCD but although the quality is acceptable it is nowhere near the quality of the original AVI's.

For a start - which type of template should I be looking at? Quality is important but I have a lot of small ish AVI files (around 20 mins a piece) and of course would like to fit as many of them on a CD as possible.

Many thanks for any help.

Swin

Hi there!!

With good quality DivX I'm achiving a very high quality (better than the original AVI in my opinion) by using the latest optimal script for DVD uncommenting the SpaceDust filter. Resolution 544x576, but if your Avi is smaller you should use 352x288 (I'm talking about PAL resolutions).

I've been using the following 2.5x script at 480x480 resolution with good results. Theres no dynamic filtering because on the AVI sources I've tried it seems to increase filesize, but try it yourself as I've only tested on three or four movies so it could just be those particular sources.

Code:
AVISource(- your avi file here -)
Limiter()

Blockbuster(method="noise",detail_min=1,detail_max=8,variance=0.3,seed=5823)
ATC(3,6,7,0.5,false)
TemporalSoften(2,7,7,3,2)
ASharp(1,3)
MergeChroma(Blur(1.58))
MergeLuma(Blur(0.2))

BicubicResize(-your resize here-)

Limiter()
