Best Quality settings for encoding using BBMpeg
Hi, Any recommendations on what are the best quality settings for producing SVCD (for viewing) and DVD (for backup of origional home videos sourced from PAL DV camera. I'm not too fussed with speed.

hi mikesbytes.
for svcd follow the picture, change only the option in "program stream type",the remainder are the same as vcd. http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2224  |
Aint that settings only for vcd?
//Wolfi |
You're right Wolfi.
For SVCD there is a simple way : double clic on "SVCD" and all the parameters will change to correct values ! |
I was looking around the forum and found this topic  http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4193 . I found out you could change a few settings in bbmpeg and then get a smaller final size
uncheck:  Add SVCD scan offsets after uncheck:  Align sequence headers and adjust:  Forced mux rate (in 50 bytes/sec units): 0(zero) Will you resirve a smaller size if you change these settings :?: //Wolfi |
:?
was asked: "... Best Quality settings for encoding using BBMpeg... best quality settings for producing  SVCD ..." this is what i wrote?!?!? "...change only the option in "program stream type", the remainder are the same as vcd. what was wrong? :? |
What's wrong Jorel is that all the values are to be changed for SVCD. Startup delays for audio must be 180 for instance, Buffer size for Video also...
For kvcd in VCD mode we need to change the standard value, that's true. But for KVCD in SVCD mode the correct values are the default ones used for all "normal" SVCD : and these values you can have it easyly in double-cliking on "SVCD" at top of BBMPEG window. Wolfi : if you want to have the smallest file ever, use TMPGENC multiplexing facility ! I can't stop telling this ! Note: make a test with moviestacker : open a source, look at the average bitrate that is calculated for this movie, then go to authoring tab and change the multiplexing option from "BBMPEG mpeg2" to "TMPEGEnc mpeg2". Return to the first tab : the average bitate is BIGGER ! That means that the file with TMPGENC is smaller than with BBMPEG.. |
strange Phil..
i'm using BBMpeg1.24b18 and if i click: one ,double click or tons of clicks in "svcd" all change in the same way, don't matter how many clicks i use.... :? everything change(alone) like needed for svcd :!: |
Lol :-).
You're right ! I just tested with the last version and they'd changed their minds :-). A loooonnnggg time ago, simple click just changed the stream format without changing the others values :-) BTW, in your answer we could understand that all the values have to be _exactly_ as they are in the screenshot you pointed, with just the stream format changed to SVCD. Thats is not correct that way... |
very good Phil,
...i was thinking that had something wrong here! all is ok! :D |
Could some post a preferred BBMPEG SVCD screen shot like the one for VCD? This would eliminate all confusion.

only change to "svcd".....it all was explained here in this thread! read from the begining(seems that you don't read) and you'll see that nothing was confused, only with extreme details!  |
After you've select "SVCD" should I change these settings or let them be :?:
uncheck: Add SVCD scan offsets after uncheck: Align sequence headers and adjust: Forced mux rate (in 50 bytes/sec units): 0(zero) //Wolfi |

Jorel I'm quite sure you make a mistake ! Your screen shot is completly useless because NONE of the values that are on it are usefull for SVCD ! I can't do screenshots but there is no need of screenshot (forgot the one ppointed by jorel) : open bbmpeg, double-clic (to be sure ;-)) on "VCD" and then on SVCD. See the values changing (all the values !) : the last values are the ones to use for SVCD. These values are : VBR, ADD SVCD scan offsets and Write program end : checked. Timestamp = all frames, Pulldown = auto, Forced mux rate = 6972 (or even 0). Pack options : Size(bytes) = 2324, Packets/park = 1 Bufer sizes 230(video) 4(audio1) 4 (audio2) Startup delays : 0 180 180 180 These are the standard values of SVCD, nothing to change for KVCD, that is why bbmpeg already know them and restore them when you click on svcd |

Okej thanks 8)

oh my GOD!
 i wrote: the screenshot is in the link of my first post, only change to "svcd"...... Phil, by default, bbmpeg open with mpeg1 checked.... when i click in (only) "svcd" all values change to the exact values that you posted, without any difference,no need to adjust nothing more. change only(if want) Forced mux rate (in 50 bytes/sec units): 0(zero) but don't need it. i repeat, nothing more... in bbmpeg version 1.24b18 i use it to do my (tons) svcds and burn with nero without problems.... or i learn to write greek, nobody understand me! |

no, only need to check svcd...nothing more to mux as svcd! is one good reference, only you and i have doubts! :rotf: :hihi: we're drunk? :drunkard: when one ask: hey do you play football? another answer: no i can't,now i need to play football. and the first: ok,i was thinking that you always play football. the second again: no my friend, only after the football. ...just like us! |
