Having trouble with hybrid movie

I'm tryng to encode a hybrid movie. It's 29% NTSC and 71% NTSCFilm and no matter what I do I can't get it right! I've run DVD2AVI with both "Forced Film" and without it. I've used "Telecide" and "Decimate" in my script but I always get a jerky playback. When I use "Telecide" and "Decimate" I still have to use "FieldDeinterlace" to get rid of the interlaced frames. Please help me out here guys. I don't know what to do...

Hi audioslave..

I feel for you too. Having my own issues elsewhere's..

Anyhows.. It would help to know what the Movie title is too, Animae or
whatnot.

Also, would also help to post your script, particulary your IVTC part, so
that we (others here) can see how you are applying it and maybe give
some tips.

Doom9 has a number of threads on this. I've frequented those threads
before, but I can't remember them off top my busy head. Perhaps if
Sh0dan finds this thread, he can assist w/ this issue of your.. I'm
sure he can offer some suggests.

But, based on my experience...
when I noticed that DVD2AVI is indicating less than 90% I will:
* set Field Operation to "none" and .d2v w/ 29.970 fps
* use decomb.dll in AVIsynth.

Note, this combo usually works for me in most conditions, but may not
in yours, but I'll throw out what I use and you can test it on your source..
mind you, it's very basic:

Code:

Telecide(swap=false, post=true, guide=1)
 Decimate(cycle=5)

Hope that helps some.

Hi vhelp,
I'm using the latest "Optimal Script" from June 18. And the movie I'm trying to encode is Andrew Blake's "Aria". I tried using your decomb settings and now the movie runs smoothly but I'm still getting some interlaced frames. What parameter(s) can I change to get rid of those?

vhelp 06-18-2003 07:15 PM

Hi audioslave..

I'm glad it's working better for you :)

Ok, I've read elsewhere's on some tips w/ decomb's Tele/Decim..

I'll try and dig them up.. but I'm in the middle of composing at doom9
my issue. But, I'll get back to you as soon as I can w/ those tips K?
Unless you resolve it sooner or someone else's assist.

Hi (again) vhelp,
Now I've got it! I've added and tweaked "threshold" and finally the interlaced frames are gone :D ! This is what I'm using:

Telecide(guide=1, post=true, threshold=0, swap=false)
Decimate(cycle=5)

I had to go all the way down to zero on the "threshold" value before all interlaced frames were gone. Anyway, thank you very much for your help  ! Now I'm gonna crank up good old ToK and go to bed. The time here in Sweden is now 02:42 a.m. Hopefully I have a KVCD to burn in the morning when I wake up!

Hey audioslave,

I've been using:
Code:

Telecide()
Decimate(mode=1, threshold=50)

with the framerate at 29.97

it works great.
