KVCD: Any recommendations for animated movies?
I want to back up my copy of Monsters Inc. which is a computer generated movie that has very smooth and vivid colors. What settings should I use in the script for this type of movie? I assume no force film in DVD2AVI, but that's about all I know.
I have a progressive scan player if that makes any difference for the telecine or whatever stuff. I'm also not sure how well these movies compress. The DVD has the full and widescreen versions on one side so I'm hoping that means the VOBs aren't that huge. Thanks! |
Use the optimal Script for DvD source ( http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3483 ) and shorten the GOP to 15 (for NTSC).

For NTSCFilm (23.976fps) use GOP=12 For PAL (25fps) use GOP=15 For NTSC(29.97fps) use GOP=18 These values are for Cartoon/Anime type films. -kwag |
With CG animations like Monsters Inc., Shrek, Ice Age, Final Fantasy, there's no need to shorten the GOP. They're so realistic that everything that works for live action will work nice for them, only they're much cleaner so they compress really well (1CD KVCDx3 looks excellent).
"Old style" animation like Snow White or Akira are much harder to get good results. |

Dup?
Dialhot,
What types of source have you used with Dup? Do you use any parameters or just Dup(). I have been encoding episodes of The Simpsons and I have not been able to tell ANY difference using Dup. I have tried it in several different types of scripts. I like the idea behind the filter but I am hoping to figure out how to get results. I want the "magic" Grantman |

The second time was on "Treasure Planet", one of the last Disney product (last year). I must admit that for the second one there is some moments where the effects of the filter were too heavy (especialy during opening credits), but it worth the cost : I gain 10% of compression (and so, raised my CQ by nearly 5 point). whree abouts in TMPGENC do you shorten the GOP? in Gop structure? in which row? or is it in Quantize matrix?
THanks |
Gop structure -> Max number of frames in a GOP.
It's self explained indeed... |
I can't change it..its greyed out... what do I do?
|
First load the kvcd template, then load an other template that is called "unlock.mcf" in the 'extras' directory of tmpgenc.
Or right click on the greyed option and select "unlock". |
thanks.. it worked
