DCT Filter on Moviestacker 2.0
 

Hi, is DCT Filter only for avisythn 2.5? or is too for 2.0? i have movistacker 2.0 and I had installed avisythn 2.5, movistacker say me that doesnt work with avisythn 2.5,only for 2.0.x!!! 8O i have interested for use DCT Filter for the Blocks in the dark areas,and then i have installed avisythn 2.0. for use this filter, but i have read here (www.trbarry.com/Readme_DctFilter.txt) that this filter is to 2.5 and i have a question: doesnt work DCT filter in avisythn 2.0.x? thanks and excuse me for my english, :oops: :roll: I am spanish :lol: thanks a lot...

I really don't see any difference with or without this filter :!:
Remember, no matter how much you filter on the input, the output is finally dictated by the encoder. In this case, DCT blocks will be produced on the output, no matter how clean the source is ;)

Edit: DCT blocks are gretly reduced by the KVCD "Notch" matrix. That was the whole purpose of the last changes :)

So you should use the "on the fly" DCT filter included in ffdshow to make a test : open a video in a player, open the ffdshow config window, go to the DCT tab, and try some values. You will wuickly see the difference if you change one of the 5 first numbers :idea:

Yes, you can see the difference real time on a player or Vdub if the source has high frequency visible components, but not after you process it through the encoder with KVCD's Q Matrix :!: At least I can't :!:
The purpose of that filter is to reduce high frequency noise components from the source, and the matrix is already set with (slightly) lower output values than the normal MPEG standard matrix. Also with the new adaptive script, usually high frequency noise is not visible on low and static scenes, because the temporal filter is working very hard. So what I mean is I that only if the source fed to the script has high frequency components with visible mosquitoes (not the case from clean DVDs! ), then the filter is very usefull. But so far, I have not seen any need on an encoded MPEG with or without the filter. Unless I'm doing something wrong 8O
But I recall some people actually getting higher file size using DCT filter instead of lower file size :?
This was tested here some time ago. I guess I'll give it a try again with the current script :)

Dialhot, jorel, you have said that the DCT Filter is "good" and we can test this filter, but if we want to use this filter in a script...what is the best configuration to put if there is a lot of DCT Blocks? thanks... :wink:
