this may be a silly question, but does turning on Preview with Thinning or Preview Show All Frames slow down the encoding speed at all? I sometimes turn it off thinking it will speed things up but now I really can't tell. I do have a fast system though (Athlon XP 2500+).

Hi J-Wo,
I've noticed some speed improvements when turning the preview off. I've also noticed a decrease in speed when selecting "Show all frames". I usually select "Display with thinning" and then turn the preview off when I see that everything is working.

Hi J-wo, it suppose to work like audioslave says but i really dont see
any difference, however with your overclocked Barton that should not matter.

For sure you don't see any diff if you hide tmpgenc in tool bar : the speed slow down with preview is due to the resizing of the frame to 320*240 (default size used for the preview picture).

If you hide it, TMPGEnc don't update it's screen, as every software when it is not "mapped" (means shown) on the screen.

No update = no preview = no time lost = run faster
