I was thinking of throwing together a little add-on zip file for dvd2svcd for making kvcds
Basically any noob could download and install dvd2svcd, then download the zip file,

after installing dvd2svcd run the zip file, it will fix everything up, install the fantastic burn out etc..

so any noob can just put a dvd in one drive, put a cd-r in the other drdive and wella! freshly burnt 1-cd kvcd without having to change one singal setting!

P.S this will also include a kvcd script, which one I am not sure as of yet.

I was thinking to do the same thing....
Last night i encoded two hour movie with KSVCD settings in DVD2SVCD 352 x 576 and ended up with CQ 79,5 on one CD. Fantastic!!!!

So I though i mayby shuold try too make an "auto resolution" option, where you put in the worst CQ value you want, and the program calculate the best resolution for the worst CQ value.

And if I move audioencoding after videoencoding, the audiobitrate will be fitted till the rest of the CD.

I'm glad you enjoyed my program

I working with the case...

Here are some questions:
-Sould I use 25 frames/GOP when converting PAL and 24/30 frames when converting NTSC or shuold I use 24 frames/GOP for both PAL and NTSC?

-What is recomanded audiobitrate for the different templates?
-KVCD lbr: 112 kbps
-KVCD 352x288:128 kbps
-(S)KVCD 352x576: 160kbps
-(S)KVCD 528x576: 160kbps
-KVCD 704x576: 160kbps
-Should I use dual channel on all templates? (What about joint stereo?)

-Should I use 8 bit DC component presision?
-Should I use no motion search for any of the templates?
-Should defult "worst CQ" be 75?
-Sooner or later I will add my own "predictor" . If somebody have a very good way to do this, so please tell me. (but I know the "standard way")
I think I should encode the the two first scrips without filters. When the program roughfly finds the CQ value, the program should encode testscripts with filters. In this way the predictor should be much faster than DVD2SVCD.

I also see that the recomanded avisynthscript canges all the time...
So I'm going to make an "update" button. When the user press this button, the program automaticly download and update latest avs scripts etc.

If anyone have any other ideas etc, so please tell me. Nothing is imposible...

Use 24 for frame rate of 23.976, 25 for 25fps (PAL) and 30 for NTSC 29.97fps

Use default of 112Kbps for all. Don't use joint stereo. Dolby signals are killed with it. Use dual channel or stereo only.

Yes. You don't have any choice if the target is MPEG-1 anyway. For MPEG-2, also use 8 bits, unless the bitrate will be at least ~4000Kbps and then use 9 bits.

Use "Motion estimate search"
Quote:

CQ is relative to the bitrates. There's no default case. Use 60 as a starting reference.

I'm currently working on a new prediction method

No, the program is for bouth PAL and NTSC. I'll fix that.
The program is for DVD2SVCD. The main piont for this plugin is to make high quality KVCD's in a easy way (Just insert an empty CD-R, click rip and encode, and next day you should have a KVCD in your CD burner...)

I'm very busy now, but I hope I can release a beta version in the weekend....

I don't know so much about copyrights etc;
I'm going to add avisynthfilters such as StMedianfilter, GripFit, etc. to the program. Is this OK???

Hi azel,

Most of the filters are either free or GNU, which means you can do whatever you want with them. Even sell them if you want, as long as you don't modify the source code If you do modify the code, then you have to give the source too.
However, if you do modify the code, and you want to protect YOUR code, then the only thing you have to do is program "hooks" on the GNU sources to "call" your external functions. And then you give away the modified GNU code, but not YOUR code. This way, you are essentially "crippling" the sources, because they will not compile, because they miss your propietary code. And this is perfectly legal, because you did release the modified sources, except your sources

This is the first functionable version of DVD2KVCD.

Download DVD2KVCD 0.0.01 Beta

You'll also need BurnOut!

The program is still very simple... The program will install recomanded AviSynth filters and change some settings in DVD2SVCD.ini and Matrices.ini, and set it up as KVCD settings. The only template so far is only SKVCD 352x480/576, but you can change this manualy.

Setup:
1) Place DVD2KVCD and BurnOut! in DVD2SVCD folder.
2) Run BurnOut for setup.
3) Run DVD2KVCD to start!!!

Future versions:
-The program will automaticly choose the best resulution
-Add my own predictionsystem

Of course. If you don't have BurnOut, the program will work normally, and no burning will be done. You can also uncheck "burn CD 1 during DVD2SVCD", and use burnout later.

Do you have any better ways to burn KVCD's?
