I hope you all have good results as I've had with this update

http://www.kvcd.net/downloads/CQMatic-1.4.01.exe

Changes:
There's now a 10 "quick step" calibration routine, prior to the prediction phases.
What this does is it figures out compression ratio from linear encoding to random encoding, which varies depending on source (frame rate/resolution/GOP, etc.) and sets internal values accordingly.
The result should be even higher precision than version 1.4.00

I want to confirm that ! The dropdown does not work on my laptop with Win2000 SP4. They works fine on the PC with XP SP1.

Hi Phil (and all!),

Try version 1.4.02 which I compiled with NT4 support.
Maybe that will now work on 2000. Not sure, though.
Also, your wish came true, about automatically minimizing the encoder on each run
Note: You will always see the encoder window pop-up, but it will immediately be sent to the task bar if you set the option: "Minimize on run"

Also, you can select/deselect the option during runs, so if you want to see the encoder up all the time, even after you started a prediction, you don't have to start the process again
That's why the option is not grayed out during the complete process.
Play with it

Enjoy,

I still have some beer to drain from end of year Phil

Re-download CalcuMatic again, and see if it works.
It's fine here.

Hi Karl,
great, just great
So far i've only done one video and the final size was only slightly different from calculated size. I've tested a problematic capture.
Thumbs up
Thanks

Thanks Krassi
I'm working on CQMatic 1.4.03 right now, where you don't even see TMPEG at all
It runs and I quickly stuff it down on the task bar, before you can even see it blink
Of course, you still have the option to maximize it if you want, but you won't (shouldn't) even see it blink when it's launched
I'll be releasing that later today. Running some final tests now.

Now grab this.
http://www.kvcd.net/downloads/CQMatic-1.4.03.exe

You shouldn't see ANY "blinks" now when the encoder starts.
Maybe one, when the first calibration cycle starts. That's it
The rest of the time, it will be sticked on the taskbar
Let me know how it works

Edit: When CQMatic has finished prediction, then the encoder will be visible showing that it's on full encoding.
That way you know when prediction has ended and full encoding is in progress.

Edit 2:
About the blink, well, you'll still see it once in a while. There's not much that can be done, because every time TMPEG starts, I try to grab it as quickly as I can, and minimize it. Unless your machine is extremely fast, there's the chance that the encoder runs just before I "catch" it to minimize it, so you'll still see that blink and probably loose focus of your active window.
Still beats having to manually minimize it every time.

Changes:

When prediction phase ends, it now encodes and leaves a small sample at the final CQ value, the same value that will be used for the full encode.
This way you can preview the quality of the sample, and see how the complete movie will look like after the full encode is done.

Because this thread is causing problems, some times we see the last page, sometimes we don't, I'm starting another thread with the same name and "Continued..." on the subject.
There's something wrong in the database in this particular thread, and I don't know where it is. So we'll just start a new page.
