@bigggt,

If your using the latest CQmatic 1.0 RC-1, make sure you delete
the files created from the last version of CQmatic and re-setup
Tmpgenc, Tmpgenc text tpr, etc. again. I didn't do this and my
prediction CQ jumped to 90 and stayed in a loop using 90 for
ever. Your problem could as simple as this I have not tested
Divx (avi) video, but after reading about your problems I will
do some testing.

Hi tigger,
I think that you're getting a CQ of 90 because of the length of your movie, 57 minutes. Yesterday I encoded Equilibrium (106,5 minutes) and got a CQ of 70,38 Great movie by the way. Recommended!

Oh, I'm sorry tigger. I didn't know that your filesize got too big with CQ90. Must have missed that... Well, I can't really help you since prediction works well for me. Hopefully someone else can.

Hi tigger,

can you try it again with a lower average bitrate (for example adjust safety blocks in Moviestacke with a high value to lower it)

no problem

even with cq 84 the file is getting TOO big...
well a right cq value should be 80 or something like that, but cqmatic is always giving me 90..

Do I need Avisynth to produce a 'script' to be able to use CQMatic? Or can I get by with just a bitrate calculator? (I do have MovieStacker).

I have read that TMPGEnc produces better results using CQ than with VBR, so am very interested in using some prediction method to determine the best CQ to use.

Thnx in advance.

started 57min movie prediction with a low cq as start value (30), but it jumped in de 2nd pass directly to 90....

just donīt know what THAT could be

Have you tried predicting with a lower average bitrate

Well, here we go again
RC2 is up!
I just uploaded http://www.kvcd.net/cqmatic-1.0RC2.exe
Because I'm still running tests, it's not final
I was able to duplicate the error on high CQ. Now the programs forces a starting CQ between 55 and 75. If you enter values lower than 55, CQMatic will start at 55 (and tell you ). If you enter numbers above 75, it will adjust to 75.
This has to do with the linearity of CQ for prediction, so that range has proved to be a good starting range.
If the final needed CQ is actually within those bounds, 55-75, CQMatic should predict much faster, because CQ is almost linear in that range. If the needed CQ is below 55 or above 75, prediction will take longer. I'll take another approach to speedup prediction in those ranges in a future version.

Hey Tigger... I have the same problem...
Me too, I have the same problem (PAL source).
Here the log:

CQMatic Version 1.0 RC-2
Copyright Softronex Corporation, 2003.
All rights reserved.
Ready!
Project: D:\CQMatic\prova.tpr
Creating: CQMatic.tpr
Execute.
Movie Time: 107
Average Bitrate: 898
Prediction Only mode
Executing Prediction Phase...
Using CQ of 60.00
Encoder started...
Encoder end.
File size difference = -15629781.000000
Last CQ = 60.000000
Current CQ = 90.000000
CQ difference = 30.000000
Using CQ of 90.00
Encoder started...

and this also with different avs source.
I think it's related to the "source range" setting in TMPGEnc: all the time I finished prediction, the program memorize the "source setting" box as enabled. But disabling it and resetting cut setting (as suggested by Kwag) doesn't work for me...
