KVCD: many frame skips, audio out of sync?

Hi,

I'm a newbie with the kvcd template. I'm in the forum for about 2h+ to search about my problem, but no answer.

First, my DVD player is a Samsung S-321, can play VCD and SVCD.

I've try to encode a 2 minutes sample with the template KVCD-CQ-352x240-_NTSCFilm_-PLUS of my DivX movie (118min total) and check to my dvd player.

Really don't know why, the movie start, but have many frameskip, audio out of synch and after 5 or 10 sec MAX of playing, I see very many garbage and the dvd player jam and 5 sec later, come back to the main screen of the DVD player (when I open my player without a cd). If I encode to the VCD standard and SVCD standard, no problem at all, the movie play very smooth...

But if I can lose a little bit of quality but can fit a movie of 120 minutes in one CD will be more appreciated.

What can be the problem? The ONLY thing i've change in the template is the motion search, set to HIGHEST QUALITY (very slow)...

hy Rambytes,
welcome in forum!
:)

before all, read and download the compatibility test for dvd players:
http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2464

test the resolutions that your Samsung S-321 can play.

hint:
burn in cdrw for tests!

The first three mode start good, but the movie come VERY FAST (like frameskip)... image quality is good, but when the guy pass the door, the movie go very fast and come normal when the guy say "You?!?!?"

The last 3 movies, I see green garbage and movie VERY VERY sloooow

By the way, i'm in a NTSC format... I don't know if the sample test made in PAL format...

Does someone have a solution for me???

The problem is that the samples provided by Kwag don't cover every cases possible.

What I suggest to you :

Take a 2 minutes sample of you movie, encode the audio part in 128 kbs, 44.1 Khz (that's important). That will be the .mp2 file.

Encode the video first in MPEG1 format with min video bitrate 600, max 2300, VBV buffer set to 40. Taht'll give you a .m1v file.

Encode same video in MPEG2 format with min video bitrate 600, max 2300, VBV buffer set to 112. That'll give you a .m2v file.

Now you have 8 tests to do (but only need to burn 2 CD : one in VCD, one in SVCD) :

mp2 + m1v muxed as VCD and burned as VCD
mp2 + m2v muxed as VCD and burned as VCD
mp2 + m1v muxed as SVCD and burned as VCD
mp2 + m2v muxed as SVCD and burned as VCD

and

mp2 + m1v muxed as VCD and burned as SVCD
mp2 + m2v muxed as VCD and burned as SVCD
mp2 + m1v muxed as SVCD and burned as SVCD
mp2 + m2v muxed as SVCD and burned as SVCD

See what test(s) work(s) on your player. After this we will adjust some parameters.

(for instance my pioneer DV454 handle 1-3-5-6-7-8, my Thomson only 5-6-7-8).
