It seams that when you told you took 23 min, you had "ConvertToYV12" in the begining of the script. Check this point !

Can't you do a script BY HAND and see how it works before to think D2S is your problem ?

If you need so much time with a script without any ConvertTo, the problem is in you PC, not in the software.

I encode all my KVCD with D2S at 8 min per min of movie, using the MA script. And I have a little P4 1,3 Ghz.

1. Without the ConvertToYV12() at the beginning of the Script, I get a Plane Difference error, and the screen is split in 1/2 in 2 colours. If there's another way of solving that I'd be willing to try. These are AVI's of ~90 minute TV shows that I bought, and they are already in YUY2 format.
, hence the need to include a ConvertToYV12() command. Without the command, I get the split screen, but it encodes at ~1 minute/ minute.

2. When you say, do a script by hand I'm not sure what you mean, because I'm not sure what I want in the script. All I had wanted to try was to see if an MA encoded AVI looked better than a non MA encoded AVI.

3. No, I don't think the problem is the software , I think it has something to do with what Codecs I do or do not have installed and the AVI files themselves. Yes, a problem on my system, but I'm not sure which problem.

thanks

Tom

You have codec problems. If you have last version of Xvid and Divx you should have YV12 and don't nedd to convert it.

I saw you use Gspot ? What does it say ? Do you have something in the chain of rendering between Divx and the Video renderer ? (ffdwhow perhaps ?).

I spent HOURS to test all possibilities offered by the dozens of codec provided in ACE Mega codec pack but now I have a system abble to deliver YV12 whatever the source format !

No they don't. The output color space is a codec matter.

1/1 without converting and 1/23 with "ConvertToYV12" ? That's a big difference !

What I wanted to say is that your opinion is that you can do such encoding using D2S and I want to show you that D2S is not the problem.
The idea is to do yourself the avs script (taking the "Last script" in the "Optimal script" forum) and to try to encode it with TMPGenc directly, without any other tool. You will see that your problem is not in D2S.

What are You thinking about that one?

http://scifi.pages.at/avanet/files/KVCDCQ50.MPG

I had that one created with my DVD2KVCD using DVD2SVCD Guide in the MAScript-Way. I chosed 'Motion estimate search'.

You like to have the last word, don't you ? Me too.

NO WAY you did this encoding from an avi source as D2S adds a line that turns the MA script out of usage. You have to patch D2S binary to avoid that !

Except if you modified your ini file since last time and added a "0=ConvertToYV12()".

Did you ?

What was the source format ? What is the script generated by D2S ?

EDIT : I just check the ini you provide : the MA script that is in it is VERY old ! Usage of asharp insteed of unfilter, 2 Scriptclip command, everything in float... All that were in the script of june 18. There were a lot a modifications since that day !

Actually, until last night, I did have ffdshow installed. A bad idea I take it? Yes, I have codec problems. So I propose to uninstall all versions of DivX and Xvid that I have on my system, and replace only with

a) Xvid most recent stable release (link found from DivX-Digest)
b) DivX 5.05 (non pro....free version)

Good? Bad? ideas?

Quite! Which is why I know something is wrong on my system. I apologize if I gave the impression that I thought something was wrong with the software. It's quite an elegant and easy solution in fact.

I've done that actually. Some of the scripts work if I edit out certain portions, most give errors, which is why I suspect something on my end (not the software).

Thanks again Phil; you've given me some more food for thought. And will have some more tries when I get home from work tonight.
