Any suggestions?
At the moment I am doing some encodes like these:

Full DVD resolution
2 hour movie
2 CDs (700 MB or 800 MB MODE1!!!)
2 AC3 Streams (5.1 @ 256 kbit/s)
2 subtitle streams

Authoring as DVD and burning on CDR
This gives me:
-5.1 sourround sound
-Switchable subtitles
-(very) good quality
-Maybe a nice menu (after some GFX work)

As I want to use the KVCD advantages, I use the Notch matrix and CQ Mode

What would you recommend me?

1. Is using MPEG1 a good choise (should be better on low bitrates. Even 1000 kbit/s is not that much at this resolution.)? Why would MPEG 2 be a better solution (is it sharper/more Details?)?

2. I'll do MPEG1 with TMPGEnc (modified KDVD Template?), but MPEG2??? CCE/MCE/TMPGENC/PROCODER???

3. How large should my GOP be??? KVCD 24 frames like or the KDVD 15?

4. anything else?

Hi!

1. I think Mini-DVDs have to be DVD-compliant -> Mpeg2 is needed for DVD resolution. I guess that's why the KDVD templates are Mpeg2..

2. I'd say CCE - personal opinion
Please take a look at this: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5142
This ought to work for MiniDVDs too..

3. Larger GOP won't work with CCE - CCE's only drawback

4. Kmini-DVD is a good idea!

Do DVDs HAVE to be MPEG2???
I did some researches on the web and don't really know if they HAVE TO... 100% are, but I think I remember seeing some specials (alterante endings) encoded in MPEG1

No, but the use of Mpeg1 is limited to VCD resolution if I remember correctly..

EDIT
Yes, found it:
http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/DVD/Book_B/Video.html

Quote:
Coded frame sizes
525/60: 720x480, 704x480, 352x480, 352x240
625/50: 720x576, 704x576, 352x576, 352x288
(MPEG-1 is allowed only in 352x240 or 352x288 res).

Yep, I mean the DVD standards
A miniDVD has to be DVD standard, or your player probably won't play it back

h3h3

My Player actually plays EVERYTHING which is MPEG1 or MPEG 2... doesn't matter which size or if it's muxxed/authored correctly...
Put an .mpg file on a cd(-rw) and put it in, he'll give you a file browser
Burn a MPEG 1 KVCD as a SVCD with 2 audio streams, he'll play it
Make a MiniDVD, he'll play it (including menu... he'll also display "miniDVD" when you put it in the drive)

I LOVE my DVD Player (Scott 738... sold codefree for 80 €)

I think You will got a problems with that resolution 352x576!!!! Are You form germany?

If You have encoded Your file You can try it to open it in TMPGEnc DVD Author. If it dosn't work You must patch Your file with DVDPatcher like in my Guide KVCD2DVD Guide by Avalon. So TDA thinks it is a normal 352x288 MPEG1 movie...

BTW: I didn't try it to open such a MPEG 1 file in TDA. Let me know if it works...

Jo, ich bin Deutscher

I usually don't use TMPGEnc DVD Author... I use Maestro...

But somehow CQMatic doesn't work the way it should...
