How to cut the finished mpg with the file size that I want?

Came out to 1.53GB with the 2 kvcd template. Now is there anyway to cut it into 2 files, for example, a 800MB and a 730MB file? The mpeg cut tool provided in Tmpgenc is based on time as far as I know, so it won't help. Any ideas?

hey, try HJSPLIT- this will let you specify the file size you want.

I tried this a few times with mpegs and there weren't any problems with playback and audio sync

-it's worth a try

I take it back, don't bother with Hjsplit. I just tried it again and I split an mpg at 400mb and it came out 409mb and the second half was not playable in windows media player. Sorry for the bad advice! tmpgenc is the only way I know how..

Try BBMpeg.

Does a beautiful job of splitting. Lets you specify the file size you want. Has built in profiles for VCD & SVCD

You must demux it in TMPGenc first.

 Just select mpeg tools/merge and cut in tmpgenc and make sure you select mpeg 1 video cd ( non standard) and cut the movie to the size you need. Thats it.

Rendalunit, I tried it, and it actually works! I burned them and both files played fine in Windvd and my Sony dvd player. But you're right, it won't play in WMP, I don't use it so it's not a problem, thanks.

Hmmm... there must be a hidden setting that I'm not aware of in Tmpgenc because I think I can cut the movie base on the length of time only. Now I can probably cut & get my targeted file size using this method, but it will take me at least a few tries if I'm lucky. Is this what you mean?

hey bigbob2,
glad to hear that worked for you :D If you cut the mpeg with HJsplit and for some reason it doesn't work, you can join them again to recover the original mpeg  Also there's a link posted somewhere around here to a TMPGenc calculator plugin that might be worth looking into
thx

Hi bigbob !
Best and easyest way to get to files with exect sizes is to use HJSplit with TMPGenc , so u get 2 parts of movie with right sizes and headers.
First - with HJSplit U cut 800mb(or eny other size) from original MPG (saves resulted file as *.001) . Now open tmpgenc ->MPG tools->CUT->add *.001 and go to the end of the clip to get time at the end . write this TIME VALUE down , u'll need it .
Close tmpg tools .
Second - open in TMPGenc->TMPG tools->cut->add your original MPG file and cut him according the time u wrote already - U'll get first half that works with perfect quality.
Do the same with TMPGenc->TMPG tools->cut to get second half - start of the clip will be the time u wrote to the and of movie . So u'll get to part of movie with right headers - any program could read tham now .

IT WORK'S FOR ME ALL THE TIME

Easyest and fastest way ?!!!!

All this trouble just to cut a movie.:)

Me, I prefer to cut the movie in equal sizes. And at the scene where I cut, I make them overlap so one wouldn't get lost in the scene when continuing the movie.
