sorry everyone but i am a raw noob to all this....i am interested in copying my dvds.....can someone explain the very basics of ripping...what programs i need and which are most user friendly....i have a dvd rom and a 24x burner....ive visited sefy's ultimate newbie conversion guide v2.0....ive tried to download the necessary programs: smart ripper, dvd2avi, tmpgenc plus & vfapi for tmpgenc, chapter x tractor, vcdeasy & aspi layer.....im not sure what any of these do or how to verify if they are working properly or how to set them all up in my computer.....this probably sounds dumb, but i just need someone to help explain all this to me.....any help will be appreciated

It would take avery long time to explain all the programs, especially if you have no-one to help you install and check them. Try reading the guides and the posts on this forum first. Visit a site called vcdhelp.

In your case I highly recommend you try a program called DVDx. Its an all in 1 DVD rip program which is very easy to use and will give you some practice and provide good results. The program is freeware and has a default mpeg encoder. There are some advanced features but you won't need these in the beginning.

It comes with a simple guide which is easy to follow. If you need help with this app just msg me on this forum and I will be glad to help.
