KVCD: Questions on File Prediction

Is there a program out there that will let you stipulate the exact file size you want your sample to be? I'll explain why in a sec.

Also, what method do you use to discern a file's exact size, since Windows uses four different methods of approximating file size (often in the same window [sheesh, Bill!])? Any good utilities for this?

My sampling method is as follows:

-1) Encode audio (duh). Record file size, and subtract from 783 (I don't like to overburn).

-2) Gin up a script, and encode a sample (sampler.dll).

-3) Calculate the length in seconds of the source.

-4) Divide by the length in seconds of the sample.

-5) This number is my divisor. Divide the product of step 1 by this number.

-6) This is my ideal sample file size.

-7) Run samples at various CQs about a million times trying to hit this number exactly. Attempt to stay sane (not to mention sober).

Every other step in my encode is normal KVCD SOP. I find that this method gets me shockingly close to 800mb with some consistency, provided I don't say "screw it. That's close enough," and encode without nailing that number down. This happens more often than not...

So, does anybody have, or know of the tools I'm looking for? If they exist, you will have saved my sanity! Wait, no, that's long gone... well, then you will have saved me more time to be insane! Thanks!

A 80min CD can contains 807Mo ! That's a BIG security margin )

(note: the best way to know the size if to select the file in the explorer. The siez is given at the bottom of the window, and that is the correct MB - or Kb - size).

Let think a little : if there were a program where we can stipulate the exact file size of the sample, and which will give us really a sample of this size, taht means that this program will be abble to give us a file of exactly 800 Mb !
So if a such tool exist, why do we need to make size prediction ? Hug ?

Hi Reno,

That's exactly what CQMatic does
As a matter of fact, CQMatic predicts the sample, to be no larger that 0.5% of the real wanted sample size
So doing that manually will take a lot of runs. Just let CQMatic do the dirty work
