Well, i've decided to finaly try KVCD Template, so I did a couple of modifications to suit my purpose (reduced resolution to 352x288, change vbv to 0 - Automatic, and used Closed GOP and increased Audio to 224k) and i've got to hand it to Kwag, great work!

I managed to put 106min of Futurama Volume Two on less then an 80min CDR, actually if I had a 74min CDR it fits that too ;)

I'll incorporate the GOP structure into the SeVCD and SxVCD and see how it effects it ;)

Be careful with the VBV=0, because it fails on some DVD players. If this value is 0, TMPEG generates a different VBV value for different movies.

The value of 48, as I had set in the template, was determined after 20 different encodes in steps of 4 starting at 12 up to 88.

I found 48 to be the center point threshold for no audio/video overflows or underflows.

Below 36 and above 60, sync problems started to appear on some DVD players.
I tested this by actually doing a VCD with 20 clips, each at a different VBV value, and I was able to confirm that at 48, it was the optimal value on all the DVD players I tested.

All tests were done at 352x480 with the KVCD template and MIN 300Kbps, MAX 2,300Kbps.

Well, basicly all my Templates use the VBV of 0 (Automatic) and i've yet to have a problem with it, so no worries there yet, even a Portable VCD Player managed to play it :)

The quality is great, I know you propably dont' like the fact I reduced the resolution to 352x288 (on the PAL Template), but I just saw no improvment with it being at 352x576 and it just looks weird when using by Media Player, and I want to maintain settings for a Portable VCD Player.

Just wanted to say you've done an amazing job there! keep it up :)

You're right on the VBV buffer. The value shouldn't affect 352x240 or 288. Where it does affect is at 352x480 or 576.

The format does look weird in Media Player, because Media Player doesn't recognize correct aspect ratios. That's why I always suggest WinDVD or PowerDVD, because they do respect the aspect ratio.

And of course I like the 352x240 ( 288 ) too!.
Usually I increase the CQ to 74 when operating at 352x240 to compensate for the lower resolution.

If I can't fit the movie at 352x480, I always fall back to 352x240, but maintaining the GOP parameters, etc, the same, and 99% of the times it will fit.

Unless you're trying to put something like "Gone with the wind" or something that long on a CD-R :lol:

I thought that and reduced the res at first, too. To be honest though, using the full resolution as found in the original template does make a diff depending on the source. I encoded some stuff this afternoon after some discussion with Kwag since he has the same machine as me, and it's superb!
