I have had great success rendering KVCDx2 2-cd discs and playing them with WinDVD on my home and work desktop. But, they will not play on my Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop (I tried both Win XP and Win 9. All I get is a green flickering screen, with audio. Windows Media Player also does not work. Standard VCDs and DVDs play fine.

Is this a limitation of the LCD screen (the laptop is 2 years old, Pentium II 400 MHz) or is there something I can change to make them play?

I think this is a media reading problem with your Tecra. Have you tried burning your KVCD's to another media?

Sorry for the delay, I've been gone for the past 3 weeks.

I just tried downloading the sample KVCD and KVCD Plus videos. They did not play either. I also tried hooking up an external monitor, thinking it might have something to do with the LCD screen. No dice. I also tried changing from 24 bit to 16 bit color, and lowering resolution to 800x600 (there is no 640x480 setting for this display driver). I checked toshiba.com for possible display driver updates, there were none.

It does not work on Win XP Pro machine, nor my friend's identical model running Win 98. Standard VCDs play fine.

Any thoughts?

I have a Compaq Presario 1200 running XP Prof. and I can run all samples in WMP. Maybe it's your mpeg2 decoder.

Isn't the KVCD Mpeg-1? I am using WinDVD 4, which works on my desktop. I'll keep researching and see if I find something funky about the MPEG-2 or display drivers. I'll keep you posted.
