I'm using CCE with Avisynth and using Vmesquita's quide and script. It takes 2-3 hours to encode an hour of Divx video to KDVD. I consider this slow but not so bad. How about yours?

It depends a lot on your processor. I generally take about 2 hours for a 1:30 DivX movie. I have a Atlhon 2000+.

I have a 2.4 GHz P4 with HT which i think is faster than Athlon 2000+. I'm using your guide and script, 2 hours to encode a 1.5hr Divx movie is fast. Hmm maybe I should disabled HT since CCE don't use it.

I forgot to mention that this value is for 16:9 movies encoded at 4:3 at 720x480... But please note that CCE performs faster if you're not doing anything else with the computer.
A P4 2.4 should be faster than an Atlhon 2000+...

Have you been successfull at putting 360 mins of video and audio onto 1 DVD-R at CQ 40 with high quality audio (AC3 or 192 kbps MP2)? I haven't but at CQ 60 and 160 kbps, yes I have.

rs008f,

Yes, I've been successfull doing that, and depeding on the movies, sometimes I manage to put one of the movies with AC3 5.1 384 kbps. And generally my Q factors don't touch 40, I generally get about 33~38. I have been using DivX sources.

Of course the kind of movie influences a lot. Once I got Q52 and decided to replace one of the movies by another, and did at Q36.

Maybe you're trying to put three action movies

I'm trying to to 14 episodes(350 mins max) of a cartoon show. I guess cartoons need more bits, hence impossible? Is it a good idea to lower the max bit rate and use CQ 40??

rs008f,

With cartoons specifically, you can filter heavily, sharpen a bit, and get more compression! My Script is not the best in this case. Since I don't do cartoons, I can't help you, but look around here and at doom9 forum (forum.doom9.org) for scripts specifically for cartoons!

You can also lower the resolution to 352x480 or 352x240 and get even more footage. Make some tests! I suggest you use lanczos resize, do a small sample and see how it looks on TV. The problem here is that you're dealing with full screen footage, which of course is harder to compress than widescreen stuff (the black bars take near no space)
