KVCD: Encoded video would not fit on one cd?
 

hi sorry to bother you

this is my first try at creating a kvcd but i'm having a few problems. i am using black prince's guide and everything was fine until i started using tok. when it started the encode it was creating a video only file in tmpgenc (i'm not sure if this is suppose to happen if it is what so i don next).
because this happened i stopped the encode and started straight away with tmpgenc and loaded the avs file and the audio file and set it to
system (video+audio). it worked this way but the file was 920 mb so it would'nt fit on one cd but the video is 110 mins so i thought it would. can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong.

the guide is good but the problem i have is that when using tok is it meant to make a only video file or have i done something wrong. i don't get all this muxing stuff.

If you encode the audio file as .mp2 first and select this as input in Tok,
then Tok will create the video and multiplex it with the audio to
create an .mpg file ready for burning. :) Tok is more automated and
is easier to use. :wink:

thanks for your help, i created a kvcd but now i have a new problem. the file only came out as 490 mb so the quality is not that good. the resolution is 352*240 so i thought the file size would be bigger as well as a better quality. how can use the extra 300 mb to get a better quality picture.

Are you sure you used Tok ???

What was the CQ used during encoding ?

70 i think, the max birate was 1800.

70 is the default CQ and it quite sure that you didn't proceed to any filesize prediction.
Did you see Tok doing several attempts before to launch the complete encoding ?

no i did'nt do any predictions as like i said in my first post my first attempt did'nt work so i wanted to get straight into it. will increasing the cq improve the quality or should i change the resolution to i think 352x480 (the only other resolution i'm kind of sure will work on my dvd player).

oh yeah can i burn the resolution 352x480 as a vcd or does it have to be a svcd.

Increasing the CQ will increase both quality and filesize :-).The same for res.

Now, to be sure to use all the avalaible space without loosing hours in encoding test, you should think about using prediction included in Tok !

well i had another attempt but i'm still having some problems. i changed the resolution to 352x480 and increased the cq to 74 and the file was just to big for 1cd buy about 50 mb. to me the picture has hardly improved and it looks abit washed out, dark and not very sharp. are there any settings on avisynth to change this.

Which script did you use ?

i think the script i used was crap as i did'nt really know what did what. i'm gonna try the optimal script and see if that improves things. one question, im using movie stacker and where it says average kbps what should i set that to as i'm not sure.

ive given up on that optimal script as it said it would take 15 hours to encode. i still don't know what setting i should do for the average birate, at the moment i just set it to 1800 but i don't know if that is right.

using the optimal script increases the encoding-time but these are well-spent hours since all the filters in use wastly improves quality :D
So my advice is to have another go at prediction and then encode with the optimal script, it will be worth it.

a max bitrate of 1800 is good enough, depending on what template you use, so go with that.

i'm using 352x480 so i set the max birate to 2500. what i said was that i set the average birate to 1800 which i think is wrong but i don't know.

Where do you want to set the average ? Moviestacker _computes_ the average because this information is needed by other tools (cqmatic for instance). But you do not need to set it yourself in Moviestacker.

so i should just leave it alone in movie stacker (the average kbps)

Yes. It don't have any purpose in Moviestacker except to tell you how much disc space you will use if you use a different value for average than the one that is computed (and wich is the optimal value to use all the available disc space).
