How to determine the midpoint in DVD2AVI with multiple VOB files?

Due to muxing errors, I wish to cut source (DVD) into 2 parts (for 2 704x480 KVCDS). THe obvious way would be to use DVD2AVI and process each half separately.

:?: How can I determing the mid point in DVD2AVI with multiple VOB files?

I assume the best way would be to use DVDDecrypter and create one large VOB file and read time in DVD2AVI.

:?: What settings would I use in DVDDecrypter to do this?

hy nick!
what is your target?
do you want 2 groups of vobs(to minidvd) or 2 dvd2avi projects(.d2v)?

:D Hi Jorel

I'm still dealing with the Iframe problem when muxing. Since TMPGEnc will mux ok, I am trying to split the film into 2 equal parts. I will then either encode as miniDVD's or 704x480 SVCD's. ( The 704x480 plays on both my players and looks about the same as a miniDVD. )

DVD2AVI shows timestamp, but not within VOB or as total film length. So far, I am trying to determine the mid point by using the timestamp and calculating the midpoint. I was thinking that if I produced only one large VOB from DVDDecrypter, the process would be more simple.

By the way, I like to read your posts. You seem to ask most of the questions I have!

equal parts?

believe nick,i don't know how a great and free prog
like this don't have fame.....you can split the dvd in parts and
the best...without break the chapters:
http://www.dvdfab.com

and with a big tutorial by mrbass(i post it a long time ago...)
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdfab/

take a look..is pretty cool!

nick,
as skvcd i do like this:
split the dvd in 2 parts(or more) with dvd fab.
make one dvd2avi project for each part!

use fadeout to the end of the first part and
fadein to the begining of the second part in the scripts!

turn the ac3 to wave and use fadeout in the end of first part
and fadein in the begining of the second part!
encode the 2 waves as mp2!

mux the video and audio faded(part1 and part2)!

got?..or better,do you understand my horrible english?

Where do I get DVD FAB and could you post a avs script showing use of video fadeout and explain exactly how to fadeout the audio? I can make the wave, but don't understand the next steps.

It sounds like what you do is exactly what I need!

Thanks

I would try to encode all the movie aiming for 1600 MB and split it with bbMPEG while muxing, giving 800MB file size in bbMPEG. bbMPEG can split also in relation to time (seconds) but as file size it will be exactly in the middle of the file (but might be not in the middle of the time).

get dvdfab here:
http://www.dvdfab.com/
http://www.dvdfab.com/index_e.html (thanks CheronAph)

fadein/fadeout?
very simple:

in the end of any script use:
fadeout(170)
for the end of first part and
fadein(70)
for the begining of the second part!

audio:
take the wave to your wave editor,(sound forge,wavelab...etc)

use fadeout in the 10 final seconds(more or less) of the first part and save.

use fadein in the first 5 seconds(more or less) on the
begining of the second part and save!

encode each part as mp2!
(test if your player can use 48k...the sound is better without resample)

ps:
:arrow:very important about the ac3 extracted with dvd2avi!
only use the "delay" in headac3he to extract the ac3 to wave.
when you encode the wave faded to mp2 DON'T use the "delay" again
 or the audio will be out of sinchro when you mux with video!

mux the first part of the video fadeout and the first part of the audio fadeout.
do the same with the second part!

nick, i only do my musicals using this way for 2 cds cos
i got great image (high CQ) and great sound (high bitrate)!

one more hint:
you can use chapterxtractor (loading the ifo of each part from dvdlab)
and with vcdeasy to do chapters for each cd!

ps again:
sorry my poor english!

This is my normal method, but some films will not mux in BBMPEG. The rare one gives an Iframe error. This leaves me with having to mux with TMPGEnc which will not split output on file size.

I've just started trying DVD FAB and see that it will only split on chapters. This is better than just guessing, but it produces uneven file sizes. Ideally, I would like 2 same sized output files to maintain the same CQ.

right Abond but
the end of the first cd and the begining of the second cd will break
the audio and video cos we "don't know" the exact point where it cut
.....with fade where you want is pretty beautifull!

Jorel,

Is there a good guide for doing this? The most simple instructions, of course.

hey nick, you will got it easy with dvdfab.
Check Split to 2 disk. Change the chapter split point if you wish.
then you will use the same CQ for each part...is easy!

yes,i will (try to) "translate" the guide that labomba and vmesquita
teaching me in portuguese forum how to do it....works fantastic!
wait...!

jorel 09-19-2003 09:16 PM

chapters with chapterxtractor and vcdeasy!

chapterxtractor:
open the chapterxtractor and select the ifo file.
in the format tab, choose in presets the option
"DVD Maestro" (will be %hh:%mm:%ss:%ff\n)
 copy(or CRTL+C) the time lines from 00:00:00:00 to the end!

open vcdeasy:
in " MAIN " select:
## VCD Type : VCD 2.0 or SVCD 1.0
##Check "Interativity"
## CDWriter type: CD Image file recorder
## Volume Label : choose the name!
## CD files : choose the address to save the xx.bin file

in " OPTIONS " :
## choose a name for " Album ".

in " CHAPTERS ":
##in the white window on the right,
 paste (or CRTL+V) the lines (time/chapters) from chapterxtractor!

click " GO " in the botton of vcdeasy!
ok...you got the xx.bin file with chapters!

burning with nero using:
file>burn image>
open the xx.bin file>burn!

is easy nick!

ps:
 big thanks again to labomba and vmesquita that with
extreme patience help me a lot to use chapterxtractor and vcdeasy.
great guys!
