possible to have ac3 sound with the KVCD ?
 

Man i love the KVCD but woulndt it be great to have 5.1 (ac3) sound with it.
Is this possible, i tried 48000hz in stead of 44100hz with the KVCD and that worked oke with my CYBERHOME, hell that even sound better then 44100hz and on a bitrate at 224, u have real heavy bass, it also worked on the PROVISON.
So this is my question is it possible to have ac3 sound with the KVCD
PS i always use DvDx1.7 and now 2.0 with the frameserver to tempgenc

No. It's not possible to use AC3 audio in any VCD. Only mpeg audio. That's why you have to use either downmix in DVD2AVI, or demux the AC3 and use a program like headAC3he to encode the mpeg with dolby surround channels.

Yeah I've just started using Headac3he and am looking forward to the benefits it brings. That difference in sound quality between 44.1 and 48 Khz is supposedly inaudible to the human ear, and any noticeable difference has been attributed in the past to the encoding performance of TMPGencs default audio encoder (i.e. not the best - use an external one).Not doing so often results in a kind of metallic whistle in high pitch sounds........

You're right bilbogod. Using headAC3he, I don't hear metallic sounds anymore.

It is still possible to do your audio encoding in TMPGEnc, when desired. You simply set up TMPGEnc to use external tools- ie., SSRC for downsampling and tooLAME for encoding to mp2. This is available from the Environmental Settings menu.

If your source is AC3, you still need Headac3he or BeSweet, however. (pssst... use BeSweet!)

What has been your experience with BeSweet?. It uses the same plug-ins ( azid, etc ), but the encoding speed is faster because you have dll's optimized for different CPU's. HeadAC3he also has this new feature, which I'll quote from the "WhatsNew" text file:
added internal downmixer (now only to 1ch or 2ch possible) with DS2 ("Surround 2") downmix capabilities

Does BeSweet have this capability?

I would honestly have to compare the two directly, so as to not give false information. I believe, however, that if you take a look at BeSweets audio offerings, you will be quite blown away! However, that many features comes at the cost of some amount of complexity as well... first time you run it, it will feel like the first time you ran FitCD. http://www.doom9.org has a nice tutorial for converting an ac3 file to mp2 (use the long version of the guide, so you can understand all the features... by default you get the 'short' guide. Will make sense when you read it)

BeSweet should do anything Headac3he does, and is under much more recent development. New versions come out every week or two. The latest supports not only extracting ac3 files, but encoding them as well. Not useful for this situation, but for those looking for the ultimate audio toy...


Update: Loading up BeSweet, it appears you can downmix to 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, 1/1, 2/1, 3/1, 1/2, 2/2, and 3/2 speaker configs (front/rear). In addition, you have full control over how the LFE channel gets downmixed into the left/right channels. I don't claim to understand half of this, I'm just pulling the info from the pop-up tooltip help in the BeSweet GUI.
By all means... use what works for you. I hadn't realized that headac3he was using azid internally like BeSweet, so they may be more similar than I thought.

Great info Daagar! I'll take a look. I know BeSweet is very good, and it's like the "Swiss Army" knife for audio conversion. But right now, for mp2 audio, headAC3he is really simple to use, and the dolby surround and quality is amazing. Just like BeSweet that is uses the same dll's. But I tried encoding a couple of weeks ago an AC3 to mp2, and headAC3he's speed was really much faster. That's because the dll's are optimized for each different CPU. But anyway, I'll do some experimentation with it :lol:

kwag, do you really get dolby surround when you use it? can you hear it on your surround peakers? my reciever shows that there is audio going to just the left and right channels, no center, rl, rr, or subwoofer. what si going on with that? do I have to select a certain setting on my reciever?

Actually, I would like to retract my previous statement.
as I was watching John Q and playing with my reciever. I tested out the DSP modes that simulate surround sound. The sound came out of all speakers but sounded distant, washed out, and hollow. Then I put the audio back to the default that loads up with the CD. I walked over to the surround speaker. Nothing was coming out. Then I heard the background music crescendo out of the speaker and I was amazed. This is sweet. I am now inserting Behind Enemy Lines into my computer to rip it. This should give a good representation of the surround sound quality. But I will skip ahead to a part in John Q that I remember hearing a distinct chopper blade in the rear left speaker. That should demonstrate the effect too. I never knew that I had Surround sound. This is kinda cool. Keep up the good work Kwag and everyone else.

I noticed surround when i converted blade 2 divx with ac3 sound, downmixed to pro logic, but you still got the full surround effect, it was great, i used headac3he and its the best sound i've heard :)
