Splains it to me, so even I can understand.
:)
My knowledge gap is because I was away for many months. As one of the very first Kwag followers, (back before there was a KVCD.net), we had these miraculous templates. I had the usual newbie problems, but, they worked. In fact, they worked great. In the time I was away, (or shortly thereafter) we (KVCD'rs) switched to seperating audio and video, avs scripts, etc etc. I dont get it. Especially, Moviestacker and the scripts for Avisynth. Tell me again, why we need that step? I mean, the template (s) do that already dont they? What is the purpose of Moviestacker creating an avs for avisynth. I dont think I even have Avisynth.. maybe I should  I seperate the audio in TMPGENC, (or maybe in V-Dub, depending on my mood) then convert to mp2 in Headache ( a new step for me), I uUse the Template of my choosing, (I'm limited to 352 x 240 because of my players.) in TMpgenc, do the video, and again use TMPGenc to mux the kvcd file. They look pretty good to me. (With occasional problems) (Not like the original DVDs tho.) I see manuals galore, posts way above my head, if you guys could, please tell me why its better to do it the other way (s) If the results are vastly different, I'd like to learn. If they only look different because of footbal stadium sized HDTV Wide screens, or 1400 by a billion pixel ultra projector resolution, then I dont really care. I still shave with a straight razor and sometimes no soap.. know whut I mean Vern? |
EightBall my friend,
your sources are dvds? if yes,i can explain but just a little! MovieStacker is great to make scripts for use in avisynth. then, depending of the filters used in the script, you get more quality in less size after encode. the MA script is for this target! you need to test with a little sample! |
Hi EightBall,
What size TV do you have :?: And also, do you have a a surround sound audio equipment :?: If you don't, then you can happily encode audio with TMPEG's internal audio encoder set to "High Quality" in TMPEG's Environmental settings. The use of AviSynth filters, as jorel just said, really helps bring down the file size. So it helps to push that last ounce in a CD-R ;) -kwag |

The Sony is set up with surround, so is the 50Inch Projection, but we hardly ever go down there anymore. [So just a real expensive coffe table right now.] :) The Dvd players only support KVCD 352 x 240, Most of my movies I back up are watchable, but more like a bad VHS tape than "near dvd" I just ripped my copy of American Pie 2, and thought I'd try to use the manual recently put up by..... I forget that too. VMesquite? It the first one in the list to see if I can follow along step by step and do one with chapters, and "near dvd" and all. If you have anything to add, please feel free. I'm always watching your posts. Thanks for the reply. |
Hi EightBall,
I would still suggest you encode your audio with HeadAC3he, because I believe it's the best MP2 audio encoder. Even at 112Kbps with DS2 ( Dolby Surround 2 ) audio, it sounds amazing on a surround equipment. And it will also sound great on a regular TV with internal speakers :) -kwag |
Thanks guys.
Jorel: What is an MA Script? Karl: I'll do that. |

it's here my friend: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3483  |
hmm
Ok so Now I understand about the scripts. Moviestacker is just a tool to help create scripts, but with the posted scripts, I likely dont have to use Moviestacker unless there is some variation to the optimal script required. Is that it?
How do I actually "USE" the script now. I have never understood how AVISYNTH meshes in with TMPGenc. I downloaded AVIsynth from the homepage, when I go into the installation folder, there isn't an icon or anything for a GUI. Can someone clear up this muddy area for me? The way I understand it, I rip my dvd with Smartripper, convert the vobs to avi with DVD to AVI, Create a script with Moviestacker, or just use the Optimal script provided on KVCD.net, Somehow tell TMPGenc to use that script. I NEED HELP HERE, select the kvcd template of my choosing., and encode the video. Use Virtualdub to rip the audio track, use Headac3he to convert the wav to mp2, then uses TMPGenc to multiplex the audio and video back into my final KVCD file. Nero to burn. Sound about right. Please correct me where necessary. |

When you install avisynth, you register in windows system a new video class (as divx and mpeg are) and tell the system how to process media from this class. When a media player has to read an avs script, it detects that is a medium from avisynth class and decode it throught avisynth dll. You can consider avisynth as a decoding only codec. Quote:
But you MUST register firt the tmpgenc plugin called ReadAVS.dll. Did you ? If you don't, tmpgenc don't offer you to open file with avs extension. That is perhaps what you missed. |
Ahhhhh!!!
Ahhh! A ton of excellent information in there. THANK YOU for that reply.
You are right, I definitely missed some steps... this was an EXCELLENT explanation. So many lightbulbs went on in my head. Now its beginning to make sense to me. Can you tell me where to get the read avs dll? Thanks for the help. |
http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic....ht=readavs+zip
There is a .reg that you must edit (with notepad) to give the actual posiotn of avisynth.dll, and then register the .reg by double click on it. |
 Excellent. That was a tremendous amount of help in a very few words!!
I thank you. I think I finally "GET IT" :D |
I finally got around to downloading the ReadAVS.dll today and changing the path in the .reg file. I have always been selecting all files (*.*) to load the .avs
|
By doing this, you always used the DirectShow support of TMPGEnc and a directshow filter installed on your PC that can handle avs without you even knew it (probably ffdshow).
