Would love to see what further you can pull off with the 352x480 template

The quality of your template is damn good, but with SVCD you can have 2 (or more) audio language and selectable subtitles that with KVCD is not possible ( with KVCD is possible have dual audio if muxing wit bbMpeg as a SVCD).
That's why people like me (not english, i'm italian) prefer SVCD.
So i'll use KVCD for movie with 1 language to fit 1 cd, but if i want subtitles and more language my choose i SVCD.
One last thing, seems a war is started SVCD vs. KVCD, in my opinion this is usless, people saying SVCD has better quality and yelling at Kwag, some other say who's using SVCD are blind, in my opinion is not a good thing, people are free, so choose what is better for own eyes.
bye.

My first post :P

Well...

Why have u chosen 704x480 in size?

The GOP structure:
I 1
P 5823
B 3
will give u a new fresh picture in about 10 min. The standard is about 3 pictures every sec. That's a big difference.
But, there is a limit for the GOP set to 48 frames. So 5823 p frames is a bit overkill

I just done a 20 second sample of tmpgenc plus's default pal vcd template and a 20 second sample of the kvcd plus pal vcd template and noticed n difference the background was a little fuzzy in parts in the exact same places on both output files, anyone know why?

Hi ndybno1, there is basically no difference in quality from the standard TMPEG 352x288 to the KVCD 352x288 Plus template. The difference is that with the KVCD 352x288 you should be able to put 120 minutes of video in a CD. If you saw fuzziness in the mpegs you created, it's something in the source. What are you encoding.?

I wasn't doing a proper encoding, I ripped 1 1gig vob from scary movie 2 dvd then used dvd2avi to save a project file, opened the project file and wav file in tmpgenc, selected 20 seconds and tested it it to see what the quality was like.

I seen the matrix vid file you done, and was impressed and was hoping that the template would get that quality, but for the pal kvcd 352 X 288 I don't have a dvd writer so I have to do vcd and svcd and kvcd.

Any help with how you did it would be much appreciated and as dumbed down as possible as I am a completeish newbie at dvd to vcd or kvcd in this case, which progs did you use to encode to such great quality and what setting did you use?

Those samples were done with the "KVCD 704x480 Plus" template. You don't need a DVD burner!. The format is MPEG-1 and it's burnable in just about any CD-R as a non-standard VCD. Check "Sefy's guides", link in the main page, for reference to all the programs we "all" use . To give you a basic start and rundown of the programs used: DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> TMPEG. Use one of the KVCD templates when you're ready to encode, instead of the standard templates in TMPEG. Take some time and read the posts in this forum There's a lot of information that will help you get the best quality/size in a CD.

You can do IVTC only if the original film was shot at 24fps.
This doesn't apply to PAL systems.

Processed the video with an AviSynth script with TMPEG, and the audio which was "demuxed" with DVD2AVI to get the AC3, was processed separately with headac3he.

Here's the AviSynth script:

LoadPlugin("C:\encoding\MPEG2DEC.dll")
mpeg2source("F:\THE_MATRIX_16X9LB_N_AMERICA\VIDEO_ TS\matrix-dvd2avi-176.d2v")
BilinearResize(704,352,0,0,720,480)
#TemporalSmoother(2,2)
AddBorders(0,64,0,64)

Some of my downloaded movies don't have a big enough resolution in order to use the 720x480 template. I was wondering if anybody had done any tests on the 352x480 PLUS template. If so, then what was the quality, especially compared to the 720x480 template since I've heard rave reviews about it.
